When are 40" 4K monitors going to have 144Hz if TV's already have it.

I bought a AOC 40" 4k display LED curved. It was pretty cool,,,,, but I returned it cuz the fonts were showing messed up....... then connected my old 28" crummy 4k sammy, where the different angles you look the picture gets brighter and darker depending on angle.. Very pos it is. I wanna know if 4k can do 120 motion or 144hz or have g-sync at 40"

I mean will pc monitors 4k ever go to 144Hz or will 4k monitors stay at 60 hertz while TV's have 240 motion

Also is AOC a bad brand,, and should be avoidable

when you get 8k 60 as standard

    then you'll get 4k120/144 maybe

tv 240 is just motion smoothing

aoc is not a quality brand and you got what you paid for, a 4k curved 40" screen

Thanks for replying scatman, Yes I think your right,,,,As for the AOC , do you think the text being messed up the fonts showing red and sll messed up is cuz of the monitor or is it a windows 10 thingie,,,,,,, in the CMOS the fonts show good but its high res and big fonts,,,,,,, My question is the fonts being mesed up is the monitors fault. IF so how can they sell it like this, and everyone gets grainy and red in some or green color messing up the font.. Thanks

Is it red around the edges of text, but white maybe in the middle?

Think I know what's causing it

Yes, fonts are blurry and red and even yellow in them, I sent it back used my 28" 4k Sammy and the fonts look great. You think it was just a monitor issue ?

Sort of but no, I don't think it supported full 4:4:4 chroma and was doing either 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 in order to get 4k at the cheaper cost.

Next time you're in the market maybe for a 4k monitor, make sure it supports 4k60 at full 4:4:4, otherwise you'll get that again

    There's examples here

Until graphics cards are capable of pushing 4K@120/144hz, you won't see 4K monitors that support those refresh rates.

Depends on the game you play. I play SWTOR, and that DX9 engine game can pump out 180FPS @ 4K on my GTX1070M.

That's an old game. Try getting 180FPS @ 4K with any recent game.....

When there's a new game out that I care about, I will try it. :)

Desktop GTX1080TI can't even get 180FPS@4K in any recently released game that I'm aware of.

The point I am trying to make is this:

Whether or not you would benefit from a 4K@144Hz panel or not would depend on what game you play, and your GPU setup. If you play the latest AAA titles, then no. If you play older games, then it can.

Personally, I could care less about how well current titles play, since the majority of them are FPS shooters, and those uninterest me. I only care about the games I actually play. :)

Luckily I'm not one of those people overly sensitive to input lag so I don't have to use a monitor. I use a 43 inch 4k tv as my monitor which is a lot cheaper. Most modern 4k tvs have a game mode or something like that with reduced input lag which should be enough for most people. I'm sure there's people who will disagree but at least that's my opinion.

I agree that some people are more sensitive to input lag than others for sure. I am not highly sensitive to it. I notice it when going from my 120hz monitor to my 4k 60hz tv but I can still play just fine on my tv and its not a huge deal. The biggest deal to me is the motion blur/smoothness going from 60hz/60fps to 120hz/120fps. Its insanely huge. But its also one of those things that some people do not seem to notice as much, just like input lag. We all have different eyes I guess. And newer 4k tvs are starting to have some pretty low input lag these days.

There are no true 120hz 4k displays right now. We do not have the bandwidth with our current hdmi/display port cables. TV companies may fool you with their marketing....My 4k tv says 120hz, and it will do 120hz....at 1080p. Its all frame interpolation, which adds artifacts and a ridiculous amount of input lag. Try finding a tv with motion smoothing that has less than 100ms of input lag. Its why "game mode" exists, which of course turn off all processing done by the tv. Which in turn gives you 60hz.

Going from 120hz to 60hz would definitely be noticeable. I'd imagine it's like going from 60 to 30. Thats another thing I'm glad I haven't tried because not only is there no gpu that can handle today's releases at 4k 120hz but like you mentioned no displays really support it. Even after the hardware does come out its going to cost a lot more to maintain 120fps at 4k than 60fps. So I guess I'm glad I am satisfied with 60fps/60hz.

Hell I already feel that way with my ultrawide running 3440x1440 @ 12ohz, it takes a 1080ti to drive this display properly and newer games can't even come close to 120 fps. I am still sitting happy around 70-100 fps in most newer games but if Assasins Creed Origins is a taste of things to come, I will have no choice but to upgrade as soon as the new cards drop. I love this stuff ;)
