This is a good thread hehehe. Core vs Core not total CPU power. So I mean games usually take up 1 core or 2 core or whatever. So the 7980XE becomes pointless for a gamer right ? My thing is if someone got a 7980XE for say for 3D modeling or Rendering or video editing or DAW obviously the 7890XE would win, but how about for gaming. Since games usually take up just 1 core and 1 HT or 2 or 3 cores. Both overclocked to 4Ghz.

Who would win for gamers ?

8700k would win in current games because of the ring bus vs 7980XE mesh architecture.
But the difference is not enough that i would take a same clock 7980 over a 8700k since it provides more pcie lanes.
But then again most 8700k are stable on all cores@5ghz and speed wins (for gaming) .
But the deciding factor is as always the gpu.

If you overclock cache to 3-3200mhz on 7980xe, it's will be pretty even to 8700k clock VS clock. 7980xe have bigger cache.

I running 7980xe @ 4600mhz/3000 cache with 4000cl17 tweaked memory, and it's pretty fast on gaming. It's nice to play games on the workstation now and then :p
