Going after new sound card, and im down to two to choose from, i would say reviews are pretty equal between both makes, what would you choose?

Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Fatal1ty Pro

    Asus Xonar D2X 7.1 PCI-Express Sound Card.

I would have to say that since I am really not a Creative Labs fan anymore (because of their notorious customer service B.S.) although I do currently own a creative soundcard. But when that card dies it will be my last. I would have to go with the Asus Xonar D2X 7.1 PCI-Express Sound Card. Good luck with the card. :infinity:

Seconded, nothing compares to it at the moment, the top card around for general audio on the PC.

If you can increase your budget a little I wouldn't hesitate to buy the Prelude over the 2 cards you have listed, it's on another level. :)

The Prelude is on sale in many places right now.

My problem with the Prelude is that it uses the same drivers as creative, which from i gather still aint up to scratch..

Reading the review on Guru about the Asus, anyone know what was meant by this comment?

    Thxs for replys.

Sure, I reviewed 3 Xonars for HWC. The drivers are "Graphics Heavy" which means they have lots of eye candy such as sliding panels, shadowing etc. It is nothing bad that will impact your GFX card etc just comapred to some other driver panels they spent alot of time on the look of the drivers. Hope this helps.

Gopher04, are you using analogue speakers?

If so, go for the Prelude.

    I'd still get the Prelude.

I mean, after all, the Fatality uses Creatives drivers as well. They probably aren't up to scratch either. They are Creatives after all. :)

Right just checked my pci-e slots, x1 is bang up against my graphics card, so can the pci-e sound cards be used in a x16 slot? slots are about 5 times longer, im not planning going down the sli route anymore.
