What would be better, 4890 or 5770?

I'm not sure why people are saying faster cpu's are needed at lower resolution.

At lower resolutions you are just more likely to hit a point where your CPU speed is limiting you FPS. At this point, however, you're probably way over 60 MIN fps so what's the point.

Counterstrike at 180fps is no different from counterstrike at 200fps.




PSU.. A nice single rail PSU has always made the most sense to me; not having to worry how my rails are loaded (which affects efficiency) is a plus.

PC power and cooling and Corsair both make good single rails, and there's more out there I'm sure.

I have a PCP&P 750 quad that I got last year for about a hundred bucks... no complaints. Both Corsair and PC make lesser priced models

 

cpu bottlenecks actually can be worse than that.

when i had my old dual core 5600+, 4 gigs ddr2, and my 4670, games would run at 10-15fps at less than 1024x768, but they would run at 40-50fps at 1280x720, and 25-30fps at 1920x1080. no drivers were changed when i did this testing. as i upped the resolution, the reliance on my dual core decreased.

but then again, the athlon x2 were pretty crappy.

I'm looking at an AMD based upgrade >_> Man I wish I could make up my mind. The price of the aforementioned AMD X4 955 is as mentioned, the same as the dual intel I was looking at.
Can anyone recommend some mATX mid range/ decent quality motherboards for this chip please, I would be very grateful

Edit - also, it seems to make sense what with AMD owning ATi so getting a system based on these techs says to me it would be more stable.

I tried benching at 4xAA, didn't work, gave me same result.

All bench done in a system with Phenom II X4 955 BE 3.20GHz, 8GB DD3-1600.

 

I must say, looking at those benchmarks I should get the 4890 for the extra FPS but being me, the impatient one, I ordered the 5770 about 2 hours ago lol
So until I get paid this month, it shall have to put up with my current rig haha, not a great thing but I suppose it'll work unlike my Sapphire x1950.

As for AMD, the prices really are good, am seriously looking into it as I was normally and Intel man (market leader etc)
Although in hindsight, I think my case is mATX only, will have to check when I get home later but with that in mind I was looking at this :

I'm happy to stick with my 4890 for now. Watercooled, using an EK full-cover block, my highest temp during full-on gaming is 42*C. Likewise my 955BE (same loop) never exceeds 37 degrees. Gaming is a solid, stutter-free experience and that's all I ask.

When and if Ati get their drivers sorted out I may try a high end 5xxx card but I'm in no rush.

 

Motherboard looks ok, but it supports DDR2, do you really wanna go for DDR2 when the price is so high? Maybe you should go for DDR3, at least the memory will work on ur next upgrade...
