suddenly i cant find a single 2 way sli 780 motherboard! they all went over to am3 ddr3 and 3way sli! I have a 780 SLI motherboard from Asrock (K10nslix3wifi) I love the board ,but the 3 sli slots are way too close together! I currently have 2 GTX 260 card in there and the #1 card runs at 10 degrees hotter than the lower card. as all the heat from the back of the card has no where to go but to be drawn into the #1 card. I have several fans and dyi ducts ( i have spent 2 about 4 -6 serious sessions building and testing air cooling ducts and vents to help but i havnt come up with the solution. I have a dedicated fan blowing air into the fan body from inside the case and another squeezing air directly into the fan venturi(with a DYI cowling to fit between the 2 cards) and a double fan set up outside the case at the rear sucking hot air out from the rear vent. My temps are pretty good(fans at 82 % via RT) 60 and 52 at max load (Hawx,CODWAW56 Toomb Raider Underworld) and 40 and 36 at idle. if your thinking of getting 3way sli set up beware of heat problems . im currently looking for a 780 sli amd motherboard that is 2way sli and am2+am3 ddr2 1066 compliant. Im looking at a zotac but see nothing but bad reviews theres is an asus also any one recomend any other 2way amd sli am2+ ddr2 1066 M\B please?
I have the MSI g65 which is 780a SLI but its DDR3. So might check out what other MSI ones there are, Asus and Gigabyte as well, surely someone makes a ddr2 780 sli
found one ASUS M4N72-E is AMD am2+\AM3 SLI 2 way M\B that has 2 way sli it dropped my GPU temps to an acceptable 39\40 at idle and 56 at max in COD WW5\6, and Tomb Raider Underworld. Where with the tight spacing of the 3 way sli set up on my 780 sli M\B caused my temps to always be off and one GTX 260 running at 10 degrees higher when maxed out in same games. The space between the cards prevented me from getting the cooling air into these babies. the 2 way sli is in my opinion the way to go if your using air cooling.
