I would say Dell or toshiba I have had a toshiba A100 for the past 1.5 years and dropped it many times on my floor and nothing has broke or been damage in any way. the keyboard is lovely and build quality is great. dell/toshiba are my fav notebook makers. I do ofcourse like apple aswell
I work in retail and ive seen many laptops come and go as far as service need. Sony has awesome customer service. i strongly recommend staying away from dell [2 of my friends personally bought their laptops and both came with bad drives] because they cut corners on build quality. you can even see it on some of their XPS systems, the LCD doesnt line up in the middle of the hinges.
Like Hannstar and Compal to name two big ones. Sony has the most Class Action Lawsuits brought against them because of their shoddy laptops. Yea great customer customer service when the customers have to drag them to court in order for Sony to fix them. Here is one a good friend of mine got dragged into SEE LINK. Do to his knowledge of the problem that plagued the GRX series he was subpoenaed by the plaintiff side for a disposition. Do not get me wrong Sony rocks in the AV and Gaming world but should abandon their PC business. Based on my experience in the laptop repair business I'd go with either a Dell, Toshiba or Lenovo (ThinkPad).
Riight? So they have bad drives, be it hard drive or cd/dvd drive either way thats not really dells fault since they do not produce their own drives. Not sure what your basing this post on but I've yet to see those issues on any of the models.
Dell uses a plethora of different HDD's and optical drives. Mine came with a Western Digital HDD and a Matsus*ita DVDRW, which are both quality brands. Others get Seagate HDD's, Optiarc DVDRW's etc. The build quality, atleast on my 1530, is superb. So I really don't know where you get that from either....
Got the Dell XPS M1530 and I'm very satisfied. Very good screen (1440x900 LED LCD), got the T7500 CPU, still very fast and 2GB. But you can customize it alot of course. My recommendation is DELL
Alright guys , I personally love the latest HP laptops , I love the smooth mouse on them..Screens lovely , unlike Sony , major view angle issues... Spec wise , great !! But weight and size wise , major bummer.. My personal fav is the HP Pavilion HDX 9390ee 2.5Ghz Dual Core 4GB Ram , (2x2048) 650GB HD 20.1 " HD Screen 8800M GTS 512MB BlueRay Fingerprint Reader etc etc Cool haa.. Cons , Big and Heavy.. But by far the best thing I've used thus far...http://youtube.com/watch?v=J9GjXImevqk&feature=related But obviously this isn't exactly what I really was looking for , it's a great buy but still just not a practical laptop :I
i fix dell laptops for living, I wouldnt recommand dell to no one to many brand new computer 3 months old wind up needing mother boards replaced among other things
Well I own the first generation ASUS G1 "G1P" and it has been nothing but a joy. Now many of the ASUS's sold from ASUS reseller have 2 year warranties standard PLUS 1 year accidental coverage included. Though I think bestbuy is the exception with 1 year but I think you can buy their personal store brand warranty. Anyways I have had it over a year, I did have to send it in for repair once. Smooth as could be, I called them up and was waiting less than 10 minutes and got a tech. (this was close to peak around 8pm EST). Didn't waste time, told him everything I suspected was wrong, everything I tried and he wrote it down and said send it in, no stupid questions like he was reading from something. So I overnight it to them on Monday, had it back Friday! Replaced my screen as it had a small blemished area appear. Second I could not run off battery or it would shutoff so I got a new motherboard. Been good ever since! Phew long but I wanted to detail my story with them, will buy again and will recommend to anyone. What ever you go for hope you like it, just do your research and good to go
Anyone have experience with Sager notebooks? This one looks like an absolute monster http://www.sagernotebook.com/product_customed.php?pid=29175
That's one mega monster , clearly the best specs I've seen to date.. I'd love to get my hands on that.. thanks for sharing Dont know much or anything about the company... Here's one for photographers or graphic artists , it boosts a heavy duty screen. http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/systemconfig.runtime.workflow:LoadRuntimeTree?sb=:00000025:00001A58:&smid=95F811B4EF37447BAA6A66969FB312CF
me neither, not even sure how I stumbled upon it .... kinda wish I hadn't, now my brain is trying hard to convince me that I need it edit: just noticed their warranty covers (3 day) 2-way shipping costs. not bad:thumbup: edit: dang, the sweet shipping coverage applies to continental US only; wish it had a backlit keyboard edit: seriously thinking of getting a Sager. I don't usually game on my laptop, but will be travelling a lot next year so will have lotsa chances then. How much of a benefit is an illuminated laptop anyway? BTW - found Sagers for a little cheaper at place called Xotic PC
i personally wouldnt get another Dell laptop. ive had one that, although its about 5 years old and still going (Inspiron 2650), has had numerous problems with its network card, cd drive and the case around the screen cracking. my brothers XPS m1710 recently had to be repaired because of a faulty part on the motherboard and Dell (being ever so helpful) wanted £1300 to replace this part, which was infact the cost of a brand new XPS m1710 with the same specs. instead he sent it to a company that makes most of its money fixing faulty Dell laptops (the guy answering the phone even knew what problem it was as soon as he mentioned the model). They charged about £230 including shipping. And just today i had an argument with a Dell employee about my girlfriends laptop (Studio 15) that we ordered on the 28th of august. They put the delivery date back from september 19th to october 13th, then just today again back another month to 5th november. which would make it roughly 2 and a half months for them to build and deliver a laptop. when i asked why it had been put back, they gave me the same rubbish about over and over again about how they cant get the parts they need, but 'i should be happy that they can get it to me on or before november 5th'. They were quite happy to take the money on september 17th though. I strongly advise against buying a Dell laptop. If it comes and when it breaks (and it will break) you wont get any help from Dell because their customer service is either a machine or a guy in india reading off a card. I'm not anti-Dell by the way, i actually own 2 Dell desktops (dimension 8400 and 9100) that i have always been happy with and havent had a problem with. Sorry for the rant!
I used a low end Lanovo the other day , it felt alot better then most other expensive Brand Laptops.. Build Quality was "A" Grade , The HP,Dell,Sony,Toshiba looks like a teenagers toy compared to a Lanovo , it's the most professional laptop I have ever see or used..
