    Total Annihalation. First RTS ever but best i've played. It came with my new PC when i was like 11 or so.

    I just recently played through the whole game again, it is just as fun now as it was then.

    Though overall I would have to stick with the Total War series.

    Command & Conquer series before Generals.

    Unfortunately, now-a-days, RTS is mainly about executing memorized strategies and who has the highest APM and not real thinking and innovating on new strategies to beat your opponent.

    At least that's how I feel...

    It was not a campaign, it was skirmish mode. There was no campaign. And the game takes just a few hours to finish.

    Also, a lot of them have retro gfx (or the style at least) and they take up too much of your time.
