Please tell me this is some form of condensation or something. Got done cleaning my Den/PC room. Like always I cleaned the sneeze dots off my monitor with the approved Samsung cloth and only water. Wrung out the cloth well before wiping it down, then just quickly and lightly with a paper towel so no water would remain for long. When I fired everything back up this is what I see on a plain screen (it's always there but most visable with a plain background). WTF is that? 3d applications work fine.... etc etc.
Opps not the little triangle in the middle of screen........... I was testing some deflection deviation in BFBC2...... . The blotchy part at the bottom.
lcd's have a laminate over them. If a drop of water is allowed to pool at the bottom then it can get under the laminate. When this occurs it will react with the screen and mess stuff up.
I think it's water damage. Images I'm Googling for that search are coming up very similar. Is there a chance it will correct itself as it dries?
That's probably what's going on here..... I'll ask again though.... Any chance it dries and corrects itself?
No its permanent damage. Never use water on a LCD.... Always use paper towel and vinegar based windex( NEVER AMMONIA based windex)
Unfortunately this monitor is almost 4 years old now, and you don't want to know what a 26" Sammy cost four years ago....... arrrrggg.
I use wet tissue paper to clean my LCD's and never seen that happen before. Can you move it around by pushing on the screen gently ? If you can, I would suggest using a credit card to pull the water down and out the bottom of the screen, like when you dry off a window with a rubber wipe
Ive tried this before on my 17" Sammy (which i still am currently using) I clean only the top, not the screen, but the water somehow sipped through the side and went inside the LCD. I was enraged! but It slowly went away as days went by, I dunno what happened but right now my screen is okay..
This is why my LCD's are all very gently wiped down with dry dusting clothes... Give Extraordinary's idea a shot, as it's a possible solution. It may correct itself in time...or it may not. It depends on the laminent itself and whether or not it will re-adhere.
I can't "squeegee" it like the windshield of a car. But it is slowly receding. I've Googled quite a few articles and there's a couple of possible repairs. I'm going to try the least risky ones first and then proceed from there. So for future Guru3d searchers/users: 1. Wait, I'll see how long it takes to recede more, hopefully it won't be an eternity. 2. Wrap the monitor in plastic or cellophane and place silica packets and/or rice in with it. If the seal is tight the silica or rice will supposedly draw the water out of from in between the layers. 3. Disassemble it and allow it to dry that way. 4. Take a hairdryer to it, carefully and very gingerly. While the hair dryer might seem less evasive I've read that too much heat can increase the pressure of the contained LCD fluid causing it to burst its seams. I'll post back with updates. The funny thing is I've cleaned this monitor the same way for 4 years and never had this happen.
second option is the more reliable i used several times at work for laptops screens and monitors. slowly ,but it worked
Probably would have been my first option if it hadn't started receding already. I'll grab a monitor from a friend and give it a shot for sure. I've seen several posts in other forums reporting success. I still can't understand why this particular time it happened. I wonder if the seal on the bezel is just getting old.
Update: Receding daily. Should be gone in a week by rough estimate. I think I got lucky. The bezel must not be nearly intact as it once was so the driest method of cleaning from here on out.
Update: Just about gone. Last of a thin "shore line" type imperfection left at the bottom of the screen. Even if this failed to clear up, I could live with it. It needs to be pointed out to be noticed. But it appears this will eventually dry out too.
Aye, my Acer laptop took some water from rain (hole in plastic bag). Same problems as what you are getting. When I first saw water and laptop I was happy, "wohoo, reason to buy new one!", turned it on and worked fine, other than that screen. It fixed itself in few days, still working fine.
