8800GT/9800GT modded to an FX3700, or an 8800GTS to the FX4600.

There are no GT200 softmods that work at the moment, AFAIK.

8800GT/9800GT G92 cards can be softmodded to the Quadro FX3700 with a BIOS flash. G80 cards can use the NVStrap driver found in RivaTuner.

Softmodding with bios flash ? :)))) They don't work like a Quadro with Riva Tuner softmod, look at the benchmarks in Internet. And they can only be softmodded in 3d Max(they don't work like a real Quadro)And Bios flashing is risky and unconfirmed with 8800 GT.But 6800 GT works like a charm in Riva Tuner softmod ;)

I've succesfully softmodded my 8800GT to QuadroFX 3700 using modified ROM (courtesy of Aqua-mac). The most noticable improvements are in 3D apps.

In Maya 2009, where 8800GT could only achieve an average of 14 fps on hi-res bike model, the Quadro softmod gain an average of 20 fps even when I turned on the anti-alias option (smooth wireframe).

I used the latest driver 195.62 WHQL for 8800GT and Performance Driver 191.78 for Quadro softmod.

As expected, the gaming performance decline just by a very very tiny percentage (I believe the score difference could be neglected). I tested using PCMark Vantage, default performance settings (1280x1024):
    8800GT - 6255
    QFX3700 - 6245.

On Aquamac site, you can find a comprehensive list of moddable GeForce card other than 8800GT and a great easy to follow step-by-step instructions regarding this softmod.

The best news is the softmod works flawlessy in both OS (Windows Vista/7 and Hacintosh) and in every applications with exception of nVidia GPU rendering software a.k.a Gelato. It still works fine, but somehow it can detect the real GPU and couldn't take advantage of this sofmod (Quadro architecture).

These are the list of software I already tested: 3DStudioMax 2009, NextLimit RealFlow 4.3.x, Autodesk Mudbox 2009 SP2, Autodesk Maya 2009, Adobe CS4 & Nuke 5.1v5 (in both Mac 10.5.8 & Win 7 64bit, except the 3DStudio Max which isn't available in Mac).

Some of the games I tested just to make sure the performance differences between the 8800GT and QFX3700 isn't noticeable: HawX, Farcry 2, Crysis Warhead, COD MW2, Torchlight, Grid, PES 2010 & NBA 2009.

I hope this info would help...

These are some screenshots I took from Maya2009:
