As the topic says. My friend introduced me to NOD32 and I never stop using it. Now my friend has got a new one called BitDefender Antivirus and he said it's just as good as NOD32 but better. I came across this on google, http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/ and it's number one in the scale of one through 10.

There is no "best", there never is and never will be. The best form of anti-virus is your self and your common sense. Your common sense not to open that e-mail that says "free porn" or not to click on a link you have no idea where it leads you.

Although I do use an anti-virus. This is just a backup, and in fact is turned off most of the time. I use it to scan compressed zipped folders mainly. Its a little program called Avast. It has not done me wrong in over 4 years.

EDIT: What you will find is that the more popular an anti-virus becomes the more prone it will be to being hacked or virus's written to get around it as more people use it. The same goes for Windows OS more people use it so there are more virus's written for it than Mac's.

I'm partial to Trend Micro as it leaves a small footprint, is lightweight, and is good at what it does. Stay away from Norton if you can.

Yeah, about clicking on random links is just common sense as you said. On the other stuff, I will keep that in mind. Thanks for replying.

I use nod32, never had any issues with it, however it depends really. Other people swear by other AV software, some people prefer a more advanced user interface whereas others may prefer a simple interface which just does what it says (without much involvement on thier end) I only judge nod32 by my personal experience which is that I have not been infected with a virus since using it. HOWEVER I have never had any issues with viruses. I think it is more a case of being careful with what you download and what websites you visit.
Best anti virus? No internet connection :) although this will not protect you against viruses on removeable media.

i use NOD32 on my main pc.

i use AVG on my laptop and 2nd pc.

i've been a huge fan of AVAST for years but dropped it 3 months ago because it was causing some weird problems in W7, AVG seem pretty good so far, but i'm going to try AVAST again next month and see if they fixed the problem, if not i'll stick to AVG.

NOD32 is probably the best antivirus out there, nothing is 100% foolproof though.

I use symantec endpoint and havent had any issues in the 1 year i have had it.

But i do agree that it all really depends on the person using the computer. there is always something out there that will do some damage no matter the antivirus installed on your pc

I like NOD32 because it has never caused me problems, doesn't really slow the system down and its not too badly priced($40 for the first year, $28 for renewals).

    love avast.

Symantec is the most over-rated bloated load of crap ever. imo and the vast majority of the internet.

I agree. I've seen it render C2D's useless and suddenly it feels like a 1.6Ghz P4.

Nod32 has better Firewall than bitdefender or Avira.

I tried all 4 including Kapsersky 2010 (it has a great fw maybe a bit better than nod32 and protection but sometimes its a system hog and blocks to much stuff, like driver install...) and still swear on nod32 security 4.

Correction. actually G anti virus is #1 currently. Symantec is a close #2.
G AV uses 2 scanning engines and detected and removed 98% which is extremely good. nothing so far is really 100% and is why its best to use layered protection. symantec 2010 is actually lighter and faster than it was in the past, they are getting better at it.

ThreatFire (freeware) is an AV augmentation...in other words, it works along side your AV but instead of using signitures, it hunts for behavior. Its a great layered approach and you can never have too many layers.

I use Eset smart security. its light and fast with no effect on gaming performance or network access interruptions.

I vote for Kaspersky, but its even better not having an antivirus.

i forgot to note that "the best" changes every month that groups of AV's are tested, who is testing them and if they are "slipped" any coin in their purse i'm sure also makes a difference.
Never trust tests from a site that has an advertisement from symantec on the same page. lol

i say just test trial versions and pick one, can't go wrong with any of them really. use layered protection and common sense.
