I know of opengl and d3d..but I thought opengl was dying and everything was pretty much run in d3d now.

Open GL is the sucsessor to open GL 1.4 or so. It will feature advanced effects and programability like in DX 9.0

    Opengl is not dying...

    U have a GF4 Ti , so u have OpenGL 1.3 or 1.4.
    (Comes with the Dets.)
Pixel shaders in OpenGL are included from 1.3 and up.
(That one came with my GF3)
    OpenGL 1.1 came with my Voodoo3 :D

OpenGL is not dying because it's more flexible for game designers than direct3d

Also, I thought Opengl was independend of video card. If you have pixelshader support you will be able to see pixel shaders in 2.0 to. Although I'm not certain....

The reason OpenGL is not going to die anytime soon is that it is mainly used as the industry-standard API for professional 3D applications. Plus, it is platform independent, which means you will also find OpenGL libraries for Unix / Linux (actually, OpenGL was developed, originally, by Silicon Graphics, as an advanced API for Irix systems)...
