alt tab problem means when u alt tab and then return to the game ur fps increase at games

    why this happen

since the memory doesnt empty its wrecked (unused data) data its memory gets fulled then windows starts to write graphic datas to system memory

since system memory is extremly slow than graphic card memory ur fps get lower and lower

when u alt tab the graphic card memory refresh and get empty then u get fps increase at the game

which cards affected by this problem

all 8800 series but only 8800 gts 320 mb edition suffer from this problem
at current games memory usage could max go 550 mb even with problem at 1280 pixel
so players doesnt feel it who uses 640mb or 8800gtx or ultra

some player still claims that memory usage passes over its original size because of current games needs much more memory

    but this is complety wrong

    here is the example

company of heroes game that 8800gts 320 mb edition suffers alt tab problem like hell

1280 pixel ultra settings 4x aa and 16x af

first screen shot from 6600gt 128mb edition

image qulity is really bad since card power is not enough but it proves that passing over its original memory size is a problem

and here is the example from 320 mb 8800gts do u notice the difference

i watched the memory usage at 6600 gt

it get fulled about 150 mb after a second refresh its memory and drop down again 96 mb and then get fulled again and drop down again

it happens really fast and contineously

this screen shot has been captured at drop down moment

The alt+tab problem is something best explained in English.

No. German would be an much better choice... ;)

Considering, english is not his first language, he is doing the best at his
ability to describe the problem as it unfolds to him. Do you agree, or do
you just want his thread closed again?

like u figured out, there is a conflict in memory management, and i think its also a game issue also, cuz it doesn't recognize the gpu with the right amount of mem, i saw it in GRAW2 it recognized my card with 512mb (but works fine) and not 320mb, same $hit happens in CoH but it looks like the game doesn't release memory properly - your only workaround now is to lower texture and antialiasing to 2 or even 0.
There is nothing you can do really, except to report CoH and nvidia about the problem and hope for the best.

I out of this thread cuz its meaningless really.:knock:

AGAIN, (I posted this in the other thread, but like a lot of people reading seems hard for some, and I speak & write 4 languages fluently!!!)

it is a bug in the drivers which Nvidia has promised to fix.

cefurkan use the latest WHQL for Windows XP: 163.71 WHQL

directly from the release notes from the driver:
Again, YES there is a memory leak for the 8800gts series, especially the 320mb model, and YES NVIDIA is *trying* to fix it.

Also, it's not because the cannot play high resolutions, as it's a SLOWDOWN issue people.

Click HERE for a clip showing this issue at work.

too bad the vista users will have to wait a bit more or use the beta 163.71 for vista.

I think this problem is across the board with 8800 cards(maybe other cards I don't know) with some games, I've seen the graphics memory fill up over 700Mb on a not too fancy dx9 game all details maxed, I was like wtf, can't remember the game now, some russian game.

320mb and 640mb are such odd-ball amounts of ram. Memory management code can get very confused when it's looking for normal memory sizes like 128/256/512, etc...

I have no information to back that claim, but it does make sense to me that this is part of the problem.

No wonder why Nvidia roll out new refresh 8800 GT with 256mb or 512mb, also said all 320 and 640 will phase out as well, poor all owner burns their money for 8800GTS or GTX going to RIP soon. I knew 320 and 640 don't look right memory management for any games.

I know Nvidia work around with 320 and 640 but still failed no matter what.

Do you ever quit? You are quite full of yourself aren't you and seem to put down a lot of people, but forget that you are still a student who has many things to learn.

BTW I PLAYED WORLD IN CONFLICT LAST NIGHT FOR AROUND TWO HOURS AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM, AND YES I MONITORED IT WITH THE RIVATUNER PLUGIN.

And stop posting images that are so damn big.

    That is all.

Pill.. if you just stop shouting for a sec, get your head out of your **s and read his problem description.. then maybe you noticed that , like yourself, he doesn't have any problems with his 6XXX gpu (1st screen).. only with his 8XXX 320mb gpu

Woow, own a 8800GTX...noticed this bug in Race07 and rFactor !!!!!

Anyone confirm if the 163.17 driver fixed this bug ????

Using the 171.17 at this moment.

With five times ALT-TAB the FPS goed through the roof in rFactor :)

    Any info appreciated.

    Hans ;)

When I ALT-TAB three times with an addon MOD in rFactor...its crashing !!

Looks like one driver gives more ALT-TABS before crasking in comparison with an other one....am I correct ??

    Anyone ??

    Hans :)

I can definitely notice a difference after alt-tabbing from F.E.A.R. to desktop and back; then the FPS gets very smooth, as it ought to be.

Shouldn't have to do that but the workaround's quite simple, so it doesn't bother me that much.
