What happened to the high end keyboards, is there anything worth considering?

I am looking to buy a new RGB mechanical silent/quiet keyboard with a rolly or turning volume control.
I use the G.Skill KM780 MX brown which is great but is "really" loud, even with double O ring dampers, so my Dad will be getting a gift.
However every one of those I have found are unsuitable, some due to ridiculous design.

Corsair would fit the bill with the K95 Platinum except the key font is ugly and they dont do a quiet version.
Perhaps the MX speed will be quiet enough, I dont know.
But the ugly font is the same on all their new keyboards so that eliminates Corsair unfortunately.

Razer RGB keyboards look fantastic and I would have bought one, but keys with double legends are only 1/2 lit!
Instead they printed the legends in white.
    What on earth, why?

Das Keyboard make the 5Q Soft but it doesnt appear to be mechanical and there are a lot of complaints about the quality.

I had a struggle with Steelseries support, then was sent another faulty mouse after the RMA.
Their quality control isnt up to par and shipping outside the UK can be costly, they have no UK support.

Logitech have the G910 with a rolly volume control but the key font is even worse than Corsairs.
    I didnt investigate further.

Coolermaster dont use a rolly volume control.

Are any other keyboards worth a look?
    My criteria are:

Reliable RGB lighting with decent software to control, capable of single key configuration and dimming.
    Reliable mechanical switches
    Silent or quietish
Media keys + rolly or turning volume control.
    Num pad
And a normal key font with all legends lit.

    Do I ask too much?
I am prepared to pay over £200 if need be.
    Thanks :)

I've had the k95 platinum for a while and i can't say i ever even noticed the font. It's non standard but other than that I find it rather nice looking..

    Hi there

I would consider Topre Realforce(have non RGB Topre mechanical keyboard and love it),
Ducky which have RGB and are mechanical keyboards, Filco I can only recommend but not sure if they're making any with RGB

Das Keyboard are good, but for same money you can get these three as well and which ones are better, hard to choose

    Hope this helps

    Thanks, Jura

Which version switches did you choose and how loud are they?
Subjective I know, but I have to ask.

Yes, I forgot to mention optical, the Huntsman was the one I wanted to buy, but for the dual legend keys that arent lit.
    So annoying!
I was thinking of fitting other keys to it but the problem is no doubt due to a lack of light at the position of the legends on the keys.

The jollyness of a slow flowing RGB lightstream is fantastic, its well loved here.
The keyboard must be lit because it gets used a lot with the lights off.
I'll have a look at the Topre keyboards again and I forgot Ducky, oops.

Brown, they're not particularly loud, browns are meant to be middle of the pack in terms of actuation point/noise etc. My previous Microsoft X6 (non mechanic also) was louder than this.

My G.skill KM780 uses browns and it is sooo LOUD!
Even when typing very quietly it is loud. Its like the keycaps amplify the noise when the key moves even slightly and when the key hits its rest position after pressing. There is always a clack which is not due to the switch.
I heard a Corsair K70 with browns which was much quieter.
Perhaps I could settle for browns on a different keyboard, thanks.

I had a look at the Topre/Seasonic capacitive keyboard plus Ducky and Gigabytes selections.
None of them have media keys or a volume controller.
They appear to be out of fashion.

    Hi there

Topre Realforce RGB do have media keys or volume keycaps, Ducky too depending on which one you are looking, Shine 7 or One I think have

    Hope this helps

    Thanks, Jura

I switched my G910 out for the Roccat Vulcan. Mostly for the look. I think the keys are slightly louder than the Logitech but I like the look so much better.

I remember looking at the Vulcan and liking it but was put off because the main characters and shifted characters are inverted.
Its madness why so many companies do something ridiculous.
I could probably live with it, its a great looking keyboard.
Does the rotating knob function for volume and for light level?

I have to wonder why they didnt do that themselves, its a showstopper on a lit keyboard.
There must be a problem surely?

I cant see the stop, pause, play, next/previous track buttons.
edit: aah yes I see them on the function keys. This is a compromise I might have to make when considering quite a lot of keyboards.

How does the volume controller work as a single key.
Does it increase to max slowly then start from silent again?

    Hi there

Yes I know these media keys are on function keys which I think is compromise too but you will see there

Yes volume control works as single key or keys like - /+ or mute, on my Ducky which is non RGB keys raise volume slowly by 2%(have 68% when I press + volume will be 70%)or at least this is on my Ducky

My Topre doesn't have media keys and same as my Filco doesn't have media keys

    Hope this helps

    Thanks, Jura

    Jura,
I would like to know how the single key works as a volume control.
How do you make the volume go up "and" down.
Does it only go in one direction?
ie up to max then start again from zero?
Or does it require a shift key, or some other operation?

    I wonder...
Can I fit new key caps to the Corsair K95 Platinum so not to have the unpleasant font they use, without compromising the lighting effect?
If so, where do I get them?

Yes the default setting is volume and then when you press the FX button the knob changes to brightness adjustment.

    ok, thanks.
It has become my first option.

    edit
Unfortunately it appears Roccat support is terrible.
And the software for the keyboard needs to be running to set it up but it doesnt run on Linux.
I may be moving my day to day use to Linux, gaming in Windows 10.

My G.Skill keyboard has 3 onboard profiles allowing me to plug it into anything and use as it was already configured.
I've had it over 2 years, Its sad the same is not possible on a new Roccat high end keyboard.
Given the trouble with Roccat support, this has become difficult.

Their support is pretty terrible. I have used their Tyon mouse for years and when they came out with a wireless version I bought it right away. When the base station was plugged into my PC it would prevent Windows from booting. All support could tell me was to update my BIOS which I did. I kept it in a drawer for almost a year before I tried it again and once the firmware updated it worked fine ever since.
Terrible support but I love this mouse. I have two wired versions for backups once this dies.
