    Hi there ladies,

    Running a i5 4670k@4.6ghz and some corsair Vengeance pro 2133 9-11-11-31 on a gigabyte Z87X-UD3H,

What kind of gpu do i need to be comfortable gaming at 1080p for years. I can also do both sli or crossfire later on.

I´m thinking 270x is good enough for my "casual gaming" but i guess i should get a 280x and overclock it like hell and i´ll be fine for the future?

Leave your opinions and suggestion and thanks in advance.

I can pay for a 280x which goes for around 280€, and i would not spend much more than that on a gpu honestly. 175€ for a 270x is also cheaper and...yeah i could have dinner out or something.

I'd say buy near the top of your budget. If something changes and games need moar gpu powar, you'll be sad that you didn't. If nothing changes, well, you just get a lot of FPS and stuff looks pretty.

How much of a compromise are you willing to do at 1080 regarding settings and eye candy? For me I needed 2 680s for my settings at 1080. I essentially had 2 770s because of the high vram oc. 680 770 7970 280x are all roughly the same performance.

It all depends. 1080p 60fps or 120fps. Are you willing to lower settings? I would say a r9 280x or if you can stretch a gtx 780 or r9 290. Later on you can add another one. I would also say gtx 770, but in a few years, with 770 SLI, you might be running out of vram if you get a 2gb 770. 4gb 770 is an option, but I'd rather have the cards I suggested above (280x, 780, 290).

Not sure how the 780s are priced around your area but that's my recommendation for 1080 to be comfortable for a couple of years.

Regardless of the model, 3gb VRAM would be the minimum I'd go with.

i have similar setup to the original poster except board is a ud5h and proc is a 4770k. is it worth waiting for the 880 to come out before i go SLI or just get another 780 right now ?

current video card is an asus direct cu ii 780.

    Thank you ladies,

    I´ll leave some more info:

    - I won´t pay more than 300€ for a gpu. For 300€ i can buy either a 280x or a gtx 770. Given the vram and overclock potential of he 280x i don´t think nvidia cuts it this time. I´ll game at 1080p 60hz. I´m not interested in maxing all games just for the sake of it; i dont want to sacrifice A LOT either. I want to be sure any game that comes out in the near future, i´ll be able to play it fine without sacrificing too much.

Well, you could go with the 270x because you are saying you don't want to MAX everything of the games.

But if you REALLY want to be future-proof, you could also go with the 280x, but I don't think it's that much better then the 270x either.

Or if I was you I should just wait for the R9 3xxX series, they sure look promising!

Btw, don't buy 270x, it's just an overclocked 270, nothing more.

I could wait if they are released this year and offer better performance per euro like the 200x did. Dunno...?
