Before you comment this guy's pictures have been getting numerous positive comments.

It's a nice picture in my own opinion but it looks fake it doesn't look real it looks more like some drew it rather than took a photo of it.

That's probably the point, not all photographs have to be taken with the intent to make them as realistic as possible. I quite like it, although it'd get on my nerves after awhile if it was hung on my wall or something.

It looks reasonably real judging from the satellite map but street view has not been there so I cannot be sure.

You can't compare photography to what you see with your real eyes.

It doesn't look fake, what it does look like, is a great exposure with great editing. the colors aren't too saturated, blacks aren't crushed and highlights are spot on.

The location of it also really helps, Dubai looks out of this world and recently there has been some great photos coming from there.

It may seem like an HDR, but not completely sold on that.

Not HDR i think, rather a spot on long exposure. If it is HDR then it's from the good ones.
Retains some info in the shadows.

Or most probably, a long exposure HDR.

Now the more important question. It obviously should have been taken with a dslr or a camera of high capability but could say an ordinary digicam have taken that shot? A cell phone cam?

I like it a lot seems futuristic but I can see where some would prefer something more realistic

Depends, with a Sony RX100 which is pretty much point and shoot site, sure. with a regular point and shoot? naw.

For a shot like this, best bet is going for a camera that has RAW capabilities. good luck trying to edit a jpg.

Not implying the photo is bad but it's obviously been HEAVILY edited.

I live in Dubai and the weather is usually dusty. It's rare you even see a blue sky there!

    that's not a blue sky, it's a night shot.

That and you can actually see particles/dust in the image if you care to look. It's evident to me that it's a very well done shot with minimal editing, and I've a base understanding of photography as a subject.

I live in Dubai and believe me the Burj Khalifa doesn't look anywhere near as good as it does in the photo, whether day or night.

It HAS been edited and colours changed...

This is how it looks in reality with NO editing, compare it with the above:

I don't believe so. The ambient colors are highlighted by the time of day, reflections and natural light. Sure, the levels and saturation may be enhanced, but this is a long exposure (not HDR) capturing the natural light and color range.

It looks clean. Minimal editing and long exposure, not sure about the time, but it was dark already.

If the original is a RAW file it could have been edited to different colors or tones in some parts.

Now this is a little strange:

It's neither a day shot, and night shot, technically. It's transitioning to night, look up "blue hour" on google images.

The EXIF shows 10AM, that's strange, unless Dubai has a really late sunrise.

Could just be different timezones, I doubt anyone would bother to correct the incamera time everytime they travelled. Camera could also be set to am/pm, and it being 10 pm there.
In Ireland during summer, It used to get start getting dark at around 9:00-9:30 pm.

There's another date in the EXIF:

    Modify Date 2013:12:12 22:47:37

So it's probably a timezone thing.
