It's certainly not the best game by objective standards but in terms of being the game that brought me the most joy ever I'd have to give the nod to Pool of Radiance on the Commodore 64.

I was a teen with a D&D obsession but nobody to play with (other than my sister when I could pester her into it) so it was literally a dream come true to have the computer become the dungeon master.

    Most fun summer vacation ever.

For pure enjoyment I would have to say Battlefield 2. It's just perfectly satisfying in every way and the aerial combat is unique.

For pure immersion HL2 wins hands down. The storyline and incredible graphics (for those days) just culminated perfectly into an unforgettable experience. The gameplay was vastly satisfying too.
I would say Skyrim comes 2nd in immersion - it's debatable I know. HL2 somehow draws you into the world more. Overall Skyrim is the better game of course.

But overall I would say Rome Total War 1 was the best game ever. Tons of depth and tactics. The battles were wildly enjoyable. A unique combination of turn-based with real-time. And the mod community was the best ever seen.

Shoutouts to Hitman 1, Mafia 1, and Morrowind for immersion.

Shoutouts to Age of empires 1, and C&C Generals for enjoyable multiplayer.

edit: Forgot to give a shoutout to Mount and Blade Warband. Created the best melee combat system. Best mounted game. Campaign and mods added a whole new dimension to the game. Not to mention the multiplayer was incredibly competitive.

Half Life 1 was the first PC game I ever played to completion, so that has to get a vote from me.

Skyrim is a game I still play to this day, have modded to death and back again.

Binding Of Isaac is the game that has my most amount of steam play time (coming up to well over 100 hours in just under a year).

Cities Skylines is my current favourite City Builder, the community for it on Reddit and the Workshop is just amazing

Final mention for me goes to my favourite RTS: C&C, the entire series. I loved Westwood studios and their take on the genre. Generals & Zero Hour are the absolute pinnacle of what an RTS should be and without their games RTS from Relic (Dawn of War, Company of Heroes) would be radically different.

Ok, I`ll participate (being lazy at work)...
I remember the huge immersion in Flashback, Another world, Prince of Persia, first Unreal, Duke Nukem, Thief.
Special feelings are for the mission in HL2 with single but overhauled gravity gun - I felt like the sith while crippling the enemies.
Also I remember the fun and innovation of game Malice (mode on top of Quake engine) - there I first met weapons to reload, hoverboard, parachute, scuba gears, submarines, interractable fire extinguishers, enemies shooting randomly before death, intermission movies made on the game engine,...

Edit: Forgot to mention Full throttle (great humor) and first Dune (great concept art).

Some great choices here. Mine would be:

The original System Shock(way ahead of its time)
Duke Nukem 3D(a laugh riot and if I'm not mistaken, the first shooter with mouse look)
    Betrayal at Krondor(loved it)
    Baldur's Gate
    Planescape Torment
    Call of Duty 1
    Medal of Honor Allied Assault

So many to name but these stand out.

Love it or hate it, WoW is one of the most iconic games to ever be released. It was also a damn good game, at least over the course of the first few expansions. It's lost some steam over the past few years, but it's still going strong.

When you become old school, you'll realize that is not existing such a thing as BEST ever or WORST :)
Doing you, you just limiting your self, and your choices.
One of the best games i ever plays so far is Battlefield 2 - Multiplayer.

Too difficult to limit it but the ones that stick in my mind are:

    These are oldies

    MP: BF2, Unreal Tournament.
SP FPS: HL2, Dues Ex, Max Payne, NOLF, SW Jedi Knight
RTS: Homeworld, Red Alert, Age of Empires, Total Annihilation.
Racing: NFS Porche, Geoff Gammonds GP2
    RPG: KOTOR2

    Current Gen: W3, GTA V, BF4

    Feels like i'm missing something.

Myself and a buddy played the shat out of the first Halo on the PC, CTF Blood Gulch 2v4 - 2v6, limited to Warthogs and human weapons. Some of the most fun I've ever had in multiplayer.

Shame about the amount of people trying to cheat, but you could always tell due to the 'popular' aimbot only focusing on the head when standing. All you had to do was crouch and they couldn't hit you, always caught them out.
