There is no such thing. Each gamer has its own list - so I don`t see the point of this post...
C&C TSun & Red Alert 1&2
NFS II SE & NFS III & Porsche
Unreal Tournament 1
Well you might as well ask what's the point of internet forums in general? To post your personal opinion / taste on things and see if there are others thinking like you.
Great choice, how could I forget F.E.A.R? I remember at the time the game was a bitch to run and required top hardware to max, a top end GPU or SLI for 60+ fps...
Those graphics & shadows were great and so was it a performance killer. Loved the slow mo effect. An excellent game along with F.E.A.R Extraction Point & Perseus Mandate. The others were $hit and game play/story went downhill...
Other games I forgot to mention:
Bioshock & Half-Life Opposing Force. I loved 'em, how could I forget them?
Agreed! FEAR had even better AI than HalfLife.
I remember i saw a video about somebody blocking a door the AI was supposed to attack you through, and the AI tried the door 2 times, gave up and went around the corner to shoot you through the window! Awesome.
Yes, Fear had great AI. Playing on medium/hard was a great challenge!
The best was shooting the AI through a window with the shotgun in slo-mo. Repeating this was fantastic since every time it was different. Depending on distance and direction of the gun, the head would either fly off or his legs blown off and you'd see a spray of blood all over the place. Great looking game at the time.
I guess for me it's World of Warcraft, as i still play that since i started in February 2006.
Singleplayer: 1.Hitman Series
2. Mafia 1
Multiplayer: Call of Duty 2
1. World of Warcraft
2. Diablo 2
Operation Flashpoint, I bought the Brazilian collectors edition and got a wife with it
The best pc game ever (so far) would be a tie between Deus Ex:HR and the original Max Payne. Since I can only choose one game to be the best pc game ever (so far), I'm going with Max Payne. I really enjoyed the atmosphere/environments in New York during a massive blizzard. The excellent story writing and voice acting in Max Payne were top notch as well in my opinion.
Thief: 1-3 (Although mostly 2)
Absolutely outstanding games, they offered something totally different at the time. The sound effects and world crafting were way ahead of anything else, they're the games that made me fall in love with all things stealth. They have some of the most iconic levels ever included in a game, The Cradle from the third is an intense experience.
The first game to use the source engine, albeit an early version of it. The game was rushed out due to Activision, which resulted in a pretty buggy experience that resulted in the death of one of the best studios in the business. Non the less, it's one of the greatest RPG's/First person games to ever be released. Fan patches have fixed many of the issues, and there's a very healthy mod scene even today. Another game worth mentioning for incredible levels, specifically The Shining inspired hotel.
Jedi Knight 2: Outcast
One of the last great Star Wars games, and the last time we got to play as Kyle Katarn. The sabre combat in this game was again way ahead of anything else we had. It still beats out the majority of melee found in games today, proof of this is found in the continued existence of a small but healthy online community. Maybe people preferred Academy, and while enjoyable I found the story a little lacking and the multiplayer imbalanced.
There's a few others I could probably think up, but those are the three that are always in my mind as far as PC games go.
All of the Infinity Engine games
That includes the Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale releases, as well as Planescape: Torment. These games were hands down the height of western RPG's, it's such a shame things started going down hill afterwards. There might have been the odd high spot, but nothing comes close to that era for proper RPG's.
System Shock 2
