So what do you do when there isn't much work to be done other than reading on guru3d forums ? IT blocked all gaming related websites and doesn't allow outgoing ssh so I can't do stuff on my home server either.
Doing stuff, why you ask? Yep, we are a busy bunch, doing benchmarks and testing hardware. Just kidding, it's just life. After work, I barely want to touch a computer.
I don't have this "issue" at work, our IT department is understaffed and we have more work to do then we can cope with in 8 hours of work a day.
Map SSH to some other known, but "available" port, say 123 (NTP). I guess if timesync is done regularly they can live with an used port for a couple of hours. And Teamviewer tunnels firewalls by port 80 or 443, if no other is available. But if inside of a company you will need a license. Or do they have trusted servers, probably using ancient protocols so they need some "everything allowed" rule? Try logging in there with your username and hopping from there. All BOFH tips, so everything may get you fired if they find out.
Besides being busy enough, if there's a low day, I usually play on my smartphone. Talk to coworkers over a coffee. Save some time and go home early, there's always times when one has to stay longer.
Yeah that's usually January here, easy month when I try to do some stuff from last year, prepare for the started one... but I already had plans to use my time better. Bring a book. Write a book. Who knows
