NOD32. I use to use norton and it hogged memory on my old system when I played BF2. I can't have 2 memory hogs running at the same time. NOD32 works great, scans fast, 1,328K memory usage. Gotta love it.

    just incase....

By the way i had a bad experience with ZoneAlarm...
Right after i uninstalled it...my net stopped working...
    did everything did'nt help...
Reinstalled windows clearing the Registry and everything came back to normal.....

    Roger_D25:
nice to know....your using....Kaspersky....im sure you feel alot safer now....
    Im using Kaspersky Personal Pro
    its better then Personal....
the only difference i've noticed is the out look...a bit...
and a few extra scanning features....
but they're all good...as long as they're fully updated :D
    and new....

Yeah, I have Norton internet security 2005. Since I got it I got not even adware or spyware, I have spybot but now its useless cause I never get any adware or spyware anymore. Its the safest Anti Virus all in one software I ever used.

There's no doubt that Norton does what it's supposed to but be aware that it uses a lot of system resources when compared to others. This is the primary reason why most people with any savy stear clear of Norton.

Good point twtaylor, when I was using Norton I never had any AV or spyware/adware issues. The problems arose when system resources came into play. Now that I am using Kaspersky and Zone Alarm Pro as a firewall my system resourcds are no longer an issue.

Currently using Trend PC-Cillin 2002...never had any problems with and it's got a great update service so I guess I'm sticking with it...until I get my hands on PC-Cillin 2005 that is.

It is just very simple, update sucks, isn't updated frequently, the security center sucks and doesn't have a high detection rate like Kaspersky and NOD32... :D

what some of us may be talking about is.....
that McAfee and nortan dont even detect viruses most of the time.....
well non of them have a detection rate of 100%
but by using different programes we're reducing the possibility of Viruses getting in past with out the AV even being aware of....

Im surprised that some of us seem to be praising the programe with out any regard...simply becasue it says it works....
Well thats what they all say...
the fact of the matter is.....nortan has way to many loose ends...along with McAfee when compaird to stuff like Kaspersky....
i found Panda to be better at detecting viruses compaired to Nortan2005

I have MacAfee on one system...
Had nortan 2005 on the other some time back....it missed around 8 viruses
    NoD32 in the other....
Im fully aware of why i chose Kaspersky.....
it updates more then 10 times a day...every day for the whole year
it also happens to be very light and quick...and it treats my system against the tons of viruses out there....
and its won most of the detection rate tests out there making it the best AntiVirus available for consumers....
thats another reason why people hate McAfee and Nortan
no1:They are'nt the best at updates...
no2:They eat up system reasources as if its their's to use only..
no3:They miss catching many viruses that most of their users many never be aware of untill they try running another AV over their system...
no4: Which makes them not the very best AV out there to protect your systems with , which happens to be exactly where every one using it goes wrong by thinking that its the best simply by relating to the fact of its availability and marketing.....but sorry it aint as great as you think it is...and throw it away thats my advice.....

the only good thing about it is that its better then not having an AV
and that its easy to find ever where...for people who are'nt that bothered....
    easy to recommend/find
and that it markets well :)
but its not the worst thats for sure inturms of protecting your system.....
your PC is'nt doomed if you happen to be using it.....its just that its not as useful as you think it is....
and the memory they eat phew!!!!!

i remember by having that McAfee Security Center/with FireWall
had atleast 8 or 12 services inthe background...
im not tOo sure but i think Kaspersky has 2 /with Firewall it might make it 3 or 4 in total....i think...

My only problem with changing from norton internet 2005 to something else is there seems to be no good programs with ID security for shopping and stuff online, someone did refer to Zone Alarm for this problem but it does not protect your whole system from ID theft, where norton does.
    any input would be great.

    :D

I hate to say it but I have gone back to Norton, yes, even after all the bad stuff I said about it. Now let me explain. After I installed Kaspersky and Zone Alarm Pro for my AV and FW protection I began having system freezes, shut downs, etc... I realize these problems were most likely due to me being an idiot and not knowing how to properly install and configure both programs (Don't laugh please, lol). With Norton it is just so easy, I just have to install and pretty much forget about it. Even with all the help and advice you guys gave me I had problems.

Is this something any of you have expierenced before when switching to separate AV and FW programs? I really want to go back to Kaspersky and either Zone Alarm or Outpost. Since I have installed Norton (I did switch the version of Norton I was using to 2004 Professional from just the regular Norton 2005 AV+FW+AntiSpam package) it has only updated twice in three days whereas Kaspersky updated about two or three times aday.

What do you guys think, keep Norton, or reinstall Kaspersky and Zone Alarm and just learn how to use it properly? Thanks again guys!!

    i'd say install kaspersky....lol

infact i had Kaspersky and ZoneAlarm install with out any problems
the only problem i had was with zonealarm after uninstalling it....i lost my internet connection...reinstalling windows helped get rip of that problem....
On the other system...i've got MacAfee's AV with Kaspersky that too does'nt cause any problems...

dont worry...you'll get things right...you are'nt an idiot...
your can get it to work...
all you have to do is...understand how firewalls are configured...

im not sure but i guess your supposed to disable windows firewall to be able to run a conflict free system with any other firewall
    then there's the access permissions...
when ever zonealarm notifies you of an attempt made by kaspersky to either update or to do anything else...tick to always allow
i'v uninstalled Zonealarm....becasue my internet gets freaky with those firewalls....
and the ones that dont do that use alot of system resources...

    and then there's this option...
Use Kaspersky along with Kaspersky's firewall

the third would be to use
Kaspersky with Nortans Symantec's firewall (i've herd that Symantec's fire wall is the best)
but im not tOo sure about the number of servies it may enable.....
i'd pick ZoneAlarm over this if that turns out to be much heavier

I am starting to get my confidence back, thanks Marri! Even in the three days I have been using Norton again I am just amazed at the amount of system resources it uses! I think I am gonna give it one more try with Kaspersky and some other firewall.

What firewall are you using Marri at the moment along with Kaspersky, that is if your still using Kaspersky? Thanks man.

im not using any firewall at the moment....
    ohh!!!
correction i've got my windows firewall enabled!!!! lol
I am using Kaspersky Anti Virus

Kapsersky Firewall if personally end up having problems with the others.
my brother on his system's used alot of different firewalls....non of which have given him any problems wit hkaspersky(unlike me :D)

    kaspersky with Sygate no problems
    Kaspersky with Outpost no problems
Kaspersky with McAfee no problems (really heavy)
    Kaspersky with Kario no problems

including Zonealarm...but im sure you'll avoid putting it with kaspersky...

i'd personally go with Kaspersky's fire wall....nothing too fancy...
it works just as fine as Macafee's firewall
but its definatly is not the best and has'nt got great reviews...
to say the least its better then not having anything right...:D

but the best i think is symantec's and ZoneAlarm(but dont know if Symantec's going to be light)
but OutPost and Kario are great choices too..

If you dont want to install any of the above....give Sygate a try...
make Kaspersky a consideration after those....
Dont install MacAfee's becasue its quite heavy....

Thanks for taking the time to reply so thoroughly! No firewall, hmmm... I promise I wont' tell my hacker buddies, lol! I think I will actaully run Kaspersky and Zone Alarm again. I had spoken to a good computer geek buddy of mine who said that is a very good combination to use. He also suggested the Kaspersky and Outpost combo. I tried Outpost before I tried Zone Alarm but didn't like it very much. Take it easy man, thanks again.

Mcafee is the worst anti-virus ever.
