1) Duke Nukem 3D
2) FIFA 97
Black and White
Opperation Flashpoint [for it's scale]
I will qualify this by saying the above three can all look a bit ropey...but when they do look good they're unbeatable.
Having started gaming in the mid-late 80's there are way too many to remember.
Practically every generation of game has "wow'd" me in some way or another.
One that does stand out though would have to be Toe Jam and Earl on the mega drive, man that game was so cool and fun to play.
Remember spending hours and hours playing duck hunt on the NES and SMB was a blast also.
1. FarCry (was/still looks superb)
2. Sid Meier's RAILROADS
3. Chronicles Of Riddick (omg best game ever!)
back in the years..... i was wowed by PRINCE OF PERSIA
I was in fifth grade when I was wowed by this one, so I don't remember it much.
Up until this one, graphically the best game I ever played was Descent 2 or Diablo 2. The first game I ever played where the cinematics were made using the game engine, which I thought was ridiculously cool.
Half Life 2
Watching my friend play it on his 6800gt practically made me drool. I was still impressed when I played it with my fx5200 (medium settings, no antialiasing)
Shadows of the Empire
Half Life Games
I was also wow'ed by "The Day of The Tentacle", "Flashback", "Another World" and not to forget Command and Conquer 1 (Those FMV's rocked for that time and especially the music).
Oblivion - when emerging from the prison dungeon for the first time.
Freespace - when fighting the huge ships
Homeworld - sense of space
So many games.
Halflifes were great games, was impressed by second game graphically in areas.
Best story for a game and also nice graphics here and there, would have to go to.
Prince of persia - Sands of time!
I got a late start to gaming. But I would have to say, in this order:
1)Mafia. I couldn't believe this was on my pc. Amazing for the time.
2)Prince of Persia, The Sands of Time. I bought my first graphics card upgrade to play that game. It was like playing a Pixar movie.
3)Half Life 2. This game actually made me say "Oh my f*cking GOD". I cannot believe this is a game! When D.O.G. attacked the Combine airship, I dropped my jaw. It is still my favorite.
Far Cry: ( I was awed by its Beauty way back on my Geforce FX 5700 )
Oblivion: ( I was just so amazed at the detail in water lighing Everything on my Geforce 6600 GT at the time )
C&C Renegade: (way back on my Geforce 4 MX 420 man that was my most Graphicly demanding game at the time)
I still play all off those games now on my 8800 and they look still just as good.....
God I loved that game. The space missions were top notch. I also remember that damn.... sewer type level where you had to swim a lot? Gorgeous but a pain in the backside! The train level tops it for that game, however. I'm tempted to pull the N64 out and replay it since you reminded me.
For me it'd be, in this order;
Wave Race 64
007 golden eye back on the old n64
half life 2
1)Doom 3 and the doom 3 alpha which i recently "found".
and Unreal Tournament, the 1 with that map Inferno.
I'd say Crytek are going to kick some MAJOR S with Crysis..
I mean common - nearly every post counts Farcry as one of the best.
max payne 2, doom 3, half life 2, company of heroes, legacy of kain defiance, brian lara cricket 2007.
