I decided to make a thread about this show on the recommendation of our Commander-in-chief. The Tv show is based upon the movie of the same name starring the iconic Yul Brynner. According to Wikipedia, it is an American science fiction thriller television series created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy for HBO.

The first episode is available, I highly recommend it and frankly find it to be the best show currently airing based upon that one episode. I'll leave links below regarding the show, feel free to discuss!

    Trailer on Youtube.

It was a good first episode, the movie was amazing at the time. The series seem to fit the timeline with 3D printing and a very strong cast.

The show is gonna be a hit I hope. LOVE the modern tunes carefully embedded into the sountrack score.

Started watching then got sidetracked by the Exorcist series...which I quite like.

Will watch the first two episodes over the weekend.

I quite enjoyed the first 2 or 3 episodes of this but after those I'm finding myself left feeling a bit "meh"... It's like its trying to set up something kinda grand in the background but its not quite working and I'm not overly fond of the casting either, aside from Thandie Newton who seems to be the only one who is really putting some effort in whereas for Anthony Hopkins its just another day at the office ( not necessarily in a bad way ).

I dunno, these are my current vibes but I'll have to watch the rest of it to get a proper idea I guess. So far its not sucking me in like some of the other high profile shows of late but theres potential there I suppose.

Same here. Premises of show fascinating and enjoyed the movie, but the show doesnt really click with me. The direction, high production values shine through but cant generate any excitement or motivation to keep me going. Only watched first 2 episodes though, not sure I want to bother with rest. This the problem in this day and age, too many things, sources of entertainment to focus our attention on, so unless something is really epic (ie, GOT, Breaking Bad, etc) I often give it a pass.

I disagree, the most recent show with Maeve's tour of the facility was friggin amazing and completely restored my faith in this show.
They have 5 seasons, they can't get it all done in 1 season.

    I agree with this.

I've just watched the latest episode (7), this show just keeps getting better.

I had a feeling some of the staff were really hosts, and I'm guessing Bernard was actually based upon a real human given the video chat with his wife. I think this show is going to explore the idea of transhumanism quite deeply.

I absolutely had that same feeling as well and am sure there's more on that same topic (not trying to spoil here).

I think the Bernard story actually goes one level deeper, he received the same treatment as his lover Theresa Cullen, was killed and then got replicated as a bot. And yes Theresa is being replicated, actually in the very same scene you'll notice a female body being created which was a subtle hint the minute they walked in that R&D room.

If you look at this picture:

    https://typeset-beta.imgix.net/2016...00&h=630&fit=crop&crop=faces&auto=format&q=70

The photo is clearly framed as if there is a 3rd person in the photo. The only time we see the photo is from Bernard's perspective. Ford asks Bernard multiple times during the show if he was around "back in the days". I'm pretty confident that Bernard is in that photo, he just can't see it - the same way he couldn't see the door. I'm not entirely convinced Bernard is Arnold yet though, or he played some other important role back when the place started.

As for the her being duplicated, if you watch the reflection in the window as she passes by the station, there is a reflection that moves the opposite direction towards the exit. The show has used reflections like this before to signify things - like when Ford is talking to the Small boy, the reflection shows the boys face over Ford, signifying that the boy is young Ford.

So far I'm really liking the show. I do agree that some of the actors are a little wishy washy but the writing/production/set/etc all carry that to the point where it doesn't bother me.
