More curious about which to use with sli 970s and and Rog Swift Gsync monitor.

Should I use smooth option, just on option or off?

I see a better performance G-sync with v sync on. By default in control panel v sync are enable with G-sync.

This option is for what you want the monitor to do once GSYNC hits your refresh rate cap (60/120/144).
On, the default, can cause some slight input lag whereas Off will result in tearing.
Never use smooth, this will half your framerate and besides, smooth is why GSYNC is here anyway :)

The best thing to do IMO is leave this option ON and cap your framerate below your refresh rate so you never hit cap (I use MSI afterburner/ RTSS for this). Because of fluctuations, to never experience any VSYNC related input lag you should cap this a good few frames below your refresh. 135 is the sweet spot for a 144hz monitor.

One thing I haven't checked is to see if you can put this cap higher with VSYNC off, maybe you can but maybe the fluctuations will occasionally result in your FPS exceeding refresh and minor tearing.
