I am trying to record some mount and blade warband playthroughs and I noticed, that about 10 minutes worth of footage, turned into 1 gig of video file.

I wanted to upload these onto Youtube, and I didnt even get close to the expected play time in on it as I am expecting to. I am expecting quadruple that, at least.

    1. Am I supposed to compress the file or what format should I be saving it as?

    2. What is the Best resolution to maintain video quality and reasonable file size?

    3. What other variable am I not considering?

Could use some feed back, would be much appreciated.

is the resolution the only factor to the file size per minute of footage?

I mean .. how can i significantly reduce file size to video footage?

You have to encode with some sort of software to lower the bitrate, it will drastically reduce the size of the video without hurting too much on the quality.

You have to do some tests for yourself to see how the final product is going to look like.

I used Avs Video Converter 8.3.

I'd use 1280x720P as an acceptable resolution, and if you use MJPG compression and set video quality a little lower then you can save on file-size.

But 10 mins of video recording will definitely eat away space if you like to maintain an acceptable quality.

Which file type is most beneficial for reducing file size and using on youtube?

    Are you recording at 30fps?

    Try these settings:

    - MJPG compression
    - 85% quality
    - 16:9 720p
    - 30 FPS

Also try recording on a separate hard drive, recommended 7200 rpm or higher.
