I have an offer from someone for a 3000+ week 17 that does 2.7+ but he wants $200 for it or i can just buy a new one for $205 with tax so my question is, if i just buy retail are my chances good ill hit at least 2.6+ anyway or should i buy the used week 17?

don't know m8, u might struggle to get the 2.6ghz clockspeed... On the other hand, The cpu which overclocks to 2.7ghz on 1 pc, is not guaranteed to do the same on another one...

my winchester 3000+ overclocks to 256x9 primestable, goes up to 282x9 but is not primestable at this overclock, so I only use 256x9....

Well from my experience with venice, not all are good overclockers.Infact mine was horrible, yes 0517,0515 are very good but later arent that great.

I had 3200 0518APEW,very bad overclocker atleast on my DFI.

    i would pick 0517 Venice.
ITs a golden week for venice. Some really good silicon there.
I have taken my 3000+ all the way upto 3.1Ghz on air.
Or the other option is to find new E6 venice. Specially 0525 E6.
E6 can be identified by code AA4BW insted of E3 venice code of AA4BP.
I would not consider winchester at this point.

    200 CAD, it's a better deal.

I would still choose the 3000 over the 3200. The lower multi will throw some people off. But they have ram dividers for situations like that.

Is the E6 core not the X2 with 1MB L2?

ya, the specific week and PAW steppings is what matters with E3 and E6 both.
Thats why if you are getting 0517s then you need to grab it.
I have 0517 EPAW. Overclocks like a madman.
0519 i my cousine has is bad overclocker.
