People are probably going to flame me, but I am considering the Hyundai Veloster when it's out, but of course, it's just on the list of things I might get. Oh and it also gets about 40MPG.

I don't really like the strange buck tooth front bumper, but I can swap that out later I guess.

I really like small, light, and fast cars (probably because I like rally)...but the only thing that kinda makes me not want it is that it's only front wheel drive. The one they are currently using in rally is custom AWD. Now don't get me wrong, people still use front wheel drive for rally, but it just doesn't look that fun to drive.

They are coming out with a turbo 208HP version. They say the car weights about 2600lbs, so 208HP is pretty good power to weight ratio. I hope that if Hyunda rally team really does good, that they will consider making an AWD version.

Anyone else here into rally cars?

I'd say stay away from the rav4. I sometimes drive one for work, and it's awfull. Way to small inside for the exterior dimensions, and terrible ride comfort(if you can call it that).

You're required to do a few years in 2WD cars before you get your AWD rally license.

These are pretty popular rally cars around here
    [IMG]
They cost nothing (good for crashing, which you will do), have a good chassis, and a massive aftermarket.

Peter: Nice restoration..... but... the muffler? Really?

FulMtl: Not a bad car, really. I like it's style more than the Juke, although i do have go agree.... they seem to have one-upped Mazda's big dopey grin a couple notches.

    Is that a Dodge Neon?
I really want to get into rally racing as a hobby since I'm pretty much done fixing, troubleshooting, and building PC's for people. I just need to find an outdoor hobby haha! I've also wanted to get into autocrossing for some time and later this year I'll finally pick up a suitable car.
The rally school I was looking at is http://www.dirtfish.com/ They also have pro events in their Washington area. It's $3,250 for the three day course, but I think that's kinda short? They don't really say anything about driving a FWD car though, they let you use their prepped STI.

Well... it's either a Dodge Neon or Plymouth Neon. Odd that now we talk about too many car manufacturer's ripping the design elements of other cars of the same class... such as the new Durango's looking like a clusterf*ck of Jeep, Lincoln, and Caddy..... when just a few years back we had Chrysler selling the same car under two different makes.

Yes, that is a dodge neon.
Yes, a company will let you pay to drive an AWD car. We're talking a rally license to allow you to actually compete in timed rally events. A 3 day class is not a rally race.
Actually, though it looks like RallyAmerica has tweaked its rules and AWD cars may be allowed. Novices are however limited to fairly unmodified cars.

Daym, are all the rally event's all in northern states? Looked at the event calender and there was only one event in Paris, TX so far. TX has so much empty uninhabited land if you drive about an hour out, but I guess we don't have enough mountains?

Clio's are like cancer, they're just increasing in numbers. A few years ago it was the Corsa.

I can't stand these common box cars. They're all you ever see on the road these days.

Well.... i guess one compliment i can give on the muffler is that it's not the one that'd basically act as a blocked-up rain gutter. By that, i mean the stupid twin-tip exhausts i sometimes see where the tips have a sharp upward bend in them. Can't imagine how much water winds up being collected in those freakin things.
