Remember a few years ago a bank was robbed by 2 guys with AK47's and full body armor? You don't need a drug lord with an apache, you only need a couple rednecks with a big stash of full automatic weapons, a short temper, and an empty wallet.

I didn't even see anything that says it was bought new.
It may have very well have been a retired APC, or one that needed a bit of fixing up. It probably cost a small fraction of a new one. Excluding the .50 cal mounted gun, you can probably buy these from army surplus stores/yards.

Infact re-reading the second artical, it said obtained, it doesn't say anywhere it was even bought. So it's most likely a retired military APC that was re purposed for this, as opposed to going to the scrap yard.

Fail if they ever use the .50 cal for anything other than moral.

If the APC is heavily armored I guess they could take it to meth labs in case things go wrong and folks need cover. For those not in the southern USA, meth labs are dangerous because they can occasionally explode.

It's an M113 from the Vietnam war, of course it's outclassed by modern stuff. It's still BA though, criminals would be scared to see that thing knocking down their door.

Why? Because it's not a tank - it's an M113 APC from Vietnam era.


The NZDF (our army) used them, then we bought 200 LAV's and the M113's were scrapped.

a bank robbery?? automatic weaps? omfg. thats what swat teams and snipers are trained for. please imagine that retarded apc tearing the street to pieces as it rolls up to a bank to fire .50cal full auto rounds at robbers. the bullets from that gun they mounted will go through 1.5 inches of steel...hell a stray bullet could kill somebody from a mile away. explain how thats a better idea than say a few flashbangs getting tossed around plz?

yes it is old and was probably acquired through govt auction. so what? if any taxpayer money was wasted on that thing at all, its a travesty :infinity:

There was some law at the time that stopped swat teams from using powerful enough weapons/ammo. This was double-reinforced body armor, hunting rifles couldn't pierce it. And police were unable to carry any type of high power ammo or weapons.
The armored swat van was being used to get injured personnel out of the hot zone to the awaiting ambulances down the street.

They actually ended it by having the swat/police teams goto a local GUN STORE to buy more powerful rifles and ammo.

I do agree the 50 cal mounted gun is a bit overkill.
The tank treads themselves, if they use rubber pads, wouldn't do to much to the streets.

And if it's armor is used to save even 1 life, may it be in combat, or just as a deterrent, then it's well worth the cost.

Watch the bank robbery yourself. Then tell me if an armored APC would have been useless. With or without the mounted .50cal.
