Who would have ever thought Valve would release a "new" game? :D

I'll be honest and be a bit cynical here but I really hate Valve's way of working. Valve is like an abusive boyfriend, he ignores you for years on end yet you still fawn over that one tiny bit of attention he gives you every couple of months.

Sure an engine rework is great but lets sum it all up from what we've seen so far.

    - New tick-rate (or elimination of it.)
    - Remastered maps.
    - New smoke mechanic.
    - Remastered lightning/graphics.

This isn't groundbreaking stuff yet people praise it as the second coming of christ because its Valve and they mastered the art of positive PR by giving you stockholm syndrome.

I'm not saying its bad i'm just saying this isnt crazy stuff, i'm just a little bitter because Valve doesn't do anything anymore. The last game we got from them was Half Life Alyx which I couldn't even play because im not investing into VR.

And even Half Life Alyx wasn't that great in my opinion.

If is the old CS:GO ( that i don't play ) with a slightly updated engine, better graphic and effects, people will be happy.
It doesn't have to be a groundbreaking new game and you don't have to put people on a new game every 2 years for some kind of rule.

Valve propbably found their gold mine with steam platform and i can understand how they could not bother doing development anymore.

I can't fault them for sticking to the most reliable way of generating revenue, governing the steam store and hiring other people to make content for their games.

I'm just sad we will probably never see a proper Valve game with the top tier polishing we are used to like Left 4 Dead or Half Life 2.

Seems like wasted potential, we know they can make gems but they've sat back and relaxed so much they don't make anything anymore.

I think most of the gaming companies seem to be happy resting on their laurels. Usually pushing out half finished products then just patching them into eternity.

Alyx was incredible and made by Valve. Yeah it's in VR but it was easily one of the best experiences I've had in gaming.

Edit: Ah i see you referenced early in the thread - sad you didn't like it. I thought it was great.

Does this have even more lootboxes?

Yeah just remember folk everyone loves to blame EA for lootboxes but it was Valve that had them first.

Huh. Okay. Useless opinion omitted then. I invested $250 in total for the Samsung Odyssey+ when the pandemic hit and felt like I got my money's worth in Half-Life: Alyx alone. I had enjoyed my time with PSVR prior to that. HL2 is still my GOAT and I have hundreds of hours in L4D 1/2 versus and CS:S/GO. I miss the old Valve and Alyx showed they've still got it.

My Mom died the night before HL:A was announced. After it released, it was truly therapeutic to get lost in that world. That was unlike anything I had experienced prior. I am very grateful they pushed a team to work in that universe again and create something special. I hope they do it again, even if it's VR and people like CalculuS have opinions about it even if they don't play it.

I did play it, most of the VR headsets give me motion sickness to the point of actual vomiting. Which is why I don't bother wasting money to buy a VR headset + upgrades to play VR games.

Condolences but bringing your dead mother to an argument like this is a tad tasteless in my opinion.

You seem very hostile even though I don't even know you.

Now that is very interesting, because as of late i have been getting messages on steam from accounts asking me if i would like some free games and some free steam wallet top ups, and all i had to do was let them log into my steam account so they can add all that good stuff.......so i assume possibly with a new CSS2 on the way, this would explain the recent flurry of new private accounts sending these messages, no doubt they must be fishing for "in good standing" steam accounts. lol

    Naughty people. lol

Valve is so thoughtful that they went out of their way not to overhaul their graphics engine too much so that little Timmy wouldn't have to upgrade his Geforce 7300 LE.
