For those of you who were worried when Valve made that statement.

Is it wrong that I enjoy being hooked up in valves milking-parlor. They keep feeding me good quality hay, I keep the lactose coming :wanker:

i wonder why ep3 was never made or hl3 for that matter. from what i can tell, the half life games were/are very popular.

What he's really trying to say is 'by implementing multi-player aspects in to a single player game, a higher proportion of people are more likely to buy it rather than pirate it'.

I know a few people who only bought Portal 2 because of the co-op.

I really dont think its the piracy issue.
I really think valve has a good finger on the pulse and knows what a gamer wants.
As someone here stated, valve may over milk a franchise sometimes (l4d for example) but I enjoyed l4d2 alot, despite its similarities.
So, let it overmilk, it does it so well.

by milking, I point at overpowered items. That not only break game balance, but also make TF2 like a social browser game. Where people care more how they look.

Yeah but how many of Valves actually do that. The customise your character DLC is the way to do DLC. It doesn't add something to the game that you some how miss by not having the DLC. It doesn't ruin the balance in the multiplayer by giving you access to some uber armour or weapon that only DLC purchasers have and it doesn't break game continuity by kicking you during a map change because you didn't buy the DLC that had that map. If you want to spend £30 (Portal 2 DLC total cost) to have have everything to make your character look different then surely that is your choice the beauty is, unlike most DLCs, those that chose not to buy it are in no way disadvantaged and don't miss out on any part of either the single or multiplayer games.

Valve's development process is weird. They don't have positions in their studio, there is no leader so to speak, everyone has talents in specific areas but are free to pretty much do whatever they want. They basically have a weekly dinner where they decide what direction they should be focusing their efforts on, it's currently DOTA 2.

    TheHunter, you're a joke.

Portal 2 is one of the best looking games of the year so far. DX9 is still the standard upon which graphical quality is based. Any DX9 game can look as good as any DX11 game.

Source Engine is modular, and is built so it can perform well and look great.

Regardless if you think it's a joke, their games sell incredibly well and are played for years.

Look at Crysis, tip top of everything, the latest graphics bar none!

Barely anyone plays the MP of that, there are a couple mods for it, but hardly any worth noting.
