My trusty 8800GTX died during the week so I decided it was probably time for an upgrade.

Good news is that I ordered the following.

    Gainward GeForce GTX 280 1024MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI

It arrived yesterday and I promptly installed it.

Bad news is that it appears my card has a fault as within a few minutes of intense use the gpu temperature soars to over 100c then the gpu gets throttled down.

Looks like I will ned to exchange the card.

Hopefully there wont be to much hassle.

You may or may not know this but here it is anyways. Download RivaTuner and crank the fan on the sucker up. 100c ouch that is hotttt! Might just need to adjust your fan speeds for gaming. Hope this helps. :infinity:

No no there was an evil batch of GTX280s that overheated like crazy. Has to be RMA'd

    just a wild guess

It doesn't have to be so, but it happens: burnt video card (or CPU, or RAM) can damage the mobo or/and the PSU. It can cause some of the components (graph card?) not to run properly anymore. Check them out.:pc1:
