    Hello friends,

I am in process of upgrading most of the main components of my computer. I would be grateful if you could help as I am horribly confused.

Main use: Photo editing (14bit 24~25MB RAW files) in mainly Lr and Ps. I run a few plugins from time to time and I have seen that even my Laptop with i5 and 8GB DDR4 is not enough. My budget is not unlimited, and I would like to get a favourable price-performance equation.

Here is the lowest quotation that I got from offline shops in my city. Please note that the prices are in INR:

    AMD build:

    Ryzen 2600x - 15800/-
x470 board Rog Strix Asus- 15000/-
x470 Board from Gigabyte- 12200/- (not in stock, will be available by the end of this month)

    Intel Build:

    i7 8700k - 23200/-
    i7 8700 - 19300/-
    Z370 HD3P gigabyte - 11400/-
Cooler for 8700k - 2500/- (not sure about the exact model)

    Common Components:

    16GB 3000MHz Ram Corsair- 12350/-
    CM K380 case - 2400/-
    Corsair 550W SMPS - 2750/-
    730 GPU 4GB DDR3 - 5300/-
    1030 GPU 2GB DDR5 - 6500/-

All the above prices are excluding GST.

    • Do I actually need a separate/discrete GPU in either case?
    • Does i7 not require a discrete GPU?
Please comment on the above builds. It is pretty interesting that there is not that much of a difference in cost between the two systems, though I am not sure how much performance improvements will be there for the extra money spent on the Intel i7 system!

Please tell me which way should I go.

    Thank you!

Yes, for AMD, since it doesn't have iGPU. No, for Intel, since it comes with iGPU.

Some application might be able to utilize GPU for faster rendering. If there no support for GPU acceleration in software you working with, you don't need dGPU for Intel CPU.

No it doesn't. It comes with iGPU that can be used for simple tasks.

Intel is safer choice when it comes to Adobe products. I'd consider getting 8700 or 8400 if you want to safe money.

If your going to overclock get the 8700k

You can't OC and use a new generation GPU with only 550 watts.

But I see you want the 1030 GPU, so you should be able to get away with it.

i7 8700 non K is better for you than K model since you aren't going to OC.

M9i cryorig is a great cooler for the price too.

It's nott necessary to get a discrete GPU either.

Correcto Agent, thats sorta what I was trying to say. the K stands for overKlocker LOL. As Agent said grab a 8700 and enjoy the ride. Remember games will take only 20 percent of CPU power believe me. So actually your CPU will never be a bottleneck
