Wait til she starts asking for her own computer, tablet, gaming system, etc....lol

I still haven't had time to thoroughly test everything. When I can finally sit down and relax, I have my son, so no stress testing gets done. When he's not here, I'm constantly running. Such is life. One day I'll make it back.

Folding again, well, until it gets too hot out and my AC can't keep up.

Started folding again, 5960X 6 cores (giving me 2 free for work stuff) @ 4GHz, and a Fury at stock. Running 440kPPD ish.

wow congrats to every one putting in cpu/gpu time for the project i wish i could contribute but my hardware is still the same as when i stopped and is on its last legs. great to see new faces and old ones! keep folding now its more important than ever!

At least you're contributing something..... I tried. The reference RX5700 blower style cooler is horrible. I have to push the fan to 85% to keep temperatures under control and then it sounds like the fan is going to self-destruct.... Doubt I'll be able to contribute anything until after things get back to normal and I can get my hands on one of the new NVidia cards..... I may have to break down and stress-test my son's computer Sunday night after he goes back to his mother. He has an MSI 1660Ti. Pretty sure I can keep it's temps under control with no effort.

had to down clock the 2600k from 4.5 no matter what i do i won't run stable.
it amazing what the project has hit in the last few days

Going almost 8m, started not to long ago.

Trying to set up a folding@home farm in the other room, this particular build is going to be my next 4-way sli project, 4 980ti's, 2 12 core xeon cpu's, 64gb ram

Thanks to everyone who is contributing to it.

Well, I've not run F@H for a VERY long time, but since all the help is needed with Covid I thought its a small way I can help seeing as I have a 12 core CPU sat here and have been running it the last 3 days now! Contributing to the G3D team of course, but a long way down the list atm!

Welp..... Tried setting up Folding@Home on my son's computer to let his GTX1660Ti get in on the action.... After about 15 minutes, the card began to throttle.... Pretty sad considering the cooler it has. Never seen a card heat up quite that fast before. After 90 minutes of folding, my reference RX5700 is only at 75C at 42% fan speed. I gave the RX5700 a slightly more aggressive fan curve to help with heat. Sounds like an aircraft trying to take off....but at least temperatures appear to be under control.

Update: the Folding@Home client was updated to allow users to select COVID-19 specifically. In case you haven't updated your client in the last day or 2....

I restarted folding after more than 5 years. With RTX 2080 & i7 5960x EE I am getting an estimated 1.5 million PPD on Covid-19 preferred WU's with 95% of that coming from the GPU. Is that a normal performance for the aforesaid CPU & GPU combo?

GPU will always have higher PPD by a considerable margin. Not sure if it's good, bad or otherwise.... My RX5700 runs between 750K PPD and 1M PPD....and my son's 1660Ti is 650-800K PPD.... I would imagine 1.4-1.5M PPD is probably about right for a 2080....

Thanks sykozis. That's encouraging. Back in the day I was using an i7 920 and a GTX 480 I was getting up to 120k ppd. I guess the current estimated 1.5m ppd ( probably 0.8-1.3 in reality given download/upload and downtime) is a decent stat with the current composition.

Yeah, the upload/download operations really kill PPD..... You can see my average PPD vs estimated PPD....

So I'm pretty pleased with the folding performance of my rather old rig...with my piddly old gen1 core i7 and an nVidia GTX970, I'm able to get north of 300K PPD! Especially now that the flow of available WUs has gotten better as the intrepid scientists and partners ramp up capacity. Since I restarted, I've gone from somewhere deep in the back of the team pack to 78th place as of today so far. I don't ever expect to be able to touch the higher output of the newer CPUs and GPUs. I mean heck, my wife is gaining on me using her laptop with a 7th gen core i7 and a nVidia mobile GTX1060. Truth is though, that I'm just happy to be able to further the science and maybe be a teeny bit responsible for a quicker successful search for therapeutics and vaccines against COVID-19. Thanks to all the new and old folders here and elsewhere who've joined the fight. Oh and I have such a lovely footwarmer at my desk now...even if it does sound like a 747 on a takeoff roll. :D
