Hi, i am currently running a Geforce 8800gts with a intel quad core q6600 and 4gb of ram. 500w power supply.

I was wondering, what is the max card i could push in my system without having to upgrade anything else, its just a time vs cant be bothered issue at present.

I could push to a new ps :)

Im well out of the pc loop at present, for a good 2 years now.

Your current PSU is a somewhat limiting factor here, Roden.

    What brand/manufacturer is it?

Besides the PSU issue, I'd recommend either a GTX275 or GTX260 for your specs.

What resolution do you play at?

I cant remember without opening the case and having a look, but as i remember it was an expensive good quality one. Its no crap for sure.

1680x1050 is my standard res, but i adjust any game to suit so it plays smoothly.

It must be 260. Yes, its a good one. If you got a good PS, you can run 260 fine.

This would be an EXCELLENT ONE!! Good choice!!! COSAIR makes some badass PSU!! I own a COSAIR TX650W and it is awesome! I miss molex connectors though, but no biggie!

Cool, they also have the one you have PSU: 700W THERMALTAKE TOUGHPOW

Whats the difference in 4 12v rails or 1 ??

    Dont really understand it.

I don't want to bash TT PSU's, but my last one popped a cap.

That said, one of the most important things in regard to PSU's is to make sure they stay cool. This is actually one of the reason I personally recommend getting a PSU that is bigger (more powerful) than you need - as if it is it doesn't have to work as hard and therefor stays cooler.

I think the one you have listed is probably a better choice.

Well yeah TT PSUs aren't great. But Antec and Crosair are good, your choice is good.

Well, my TT Toughpower is in the trash. I got so pissed at it only having it a year, I threw it away and did not give a crap about the warranty because I spent so much and I was only getting 3.7v off the 5v rail. GGGRRRRR!!! Just ticks me off just thinking about it!

Anyway to your question.... 4 12V rails spits the amps among the rails, but the total of all 4 rails is the max amperage of that rail. Having 1 rail I heard is a lot more stable than having them spit like that. That is why I went to COSAIR and everyone seems to rank them high in reviews with good quality!
