Unwinder: How about ATI 9x00 to FireGL X1? SoftQuadro for ATI?

Discussion in 'RivaTuner Advanced Discussion forum' started by Spike Lee III, Jan 8, 2003.

  1. Hey!
I was just wondering if it's possible to turn some Radeon9x00 model to a FireGL X1 anyhow?

I don't own a Radeon nor have I seen a FireGL X1 (preproduction now?) so it might be a stupid question, but what the hell, I'm curious...

    Tests at
    http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic/20021231/fireglx1-linux-05.html
show that the FireGL X1 kicks everyones ass in Linux...

Yeah, seems like it could be done. It still hasn't even been done on the hdw level though.

All the guys on rage3d, that tried to do it (I've read one thread on it) are working in wrong direction. It's almost impossible to acheive positive result by trying to find ID in the driver's binary. It's necessary to _understand_ which code do they change and how does it work.

Unwinder i think that any hardware is jealous about your speed!!

So ..this is only for the 9500?..or we can use it with the 9700p?..

Nope, it's not only for 9500. The scripts will be able to convert R9500 to Z1(4 pipelines) orX1(8 pipelines). The scripts will be also able to convert R9700 to X1 and regular Z1 to X1.
However I've not tested it on R9700 yet. But it's just a question of time.

No BIOS cracking/flashing, no resistor tricks. Just the script like SoftR9700.

    9500 128-bit, 9500 256-bit????

    Unwinder,

You're the man! I'm new to this kind of thing, but I just bought an Epox 8RDA+ and found out that my old Kyro II card is incompatible.

So, it's time to buy. I started reading about all of these mods to the 9500, which is what I want to buy. However, I sure didn't want to hassle with resitor moves and BIOS flashes if I could help it.

That's why I am glad to hear what you are doing. But I do have a question for or anyone else here. Will it matter if I just buy a stright-up ATI 9500 (128-bit) OEM card or do I need an card that has 256-bit memory?

I see where several posters have mentioned getting the 256 bit version of the 9500. Question is, from where? All I see are the 128-bit versions from sources like new***.com, etc.. Would these be the Sapphire cards that everyone is talking about?

However, if your script works on the 64MB version of the 9500, then I assume that a 128-bit 9500 will work as well.

    no

from what i remember using a 64mb/128bits version with the patch will give you a 9500pro

    Ataxy,

It sounds like, and that's why I would like unwinder to give his 2 cents, that the new SoftFire script that he wrote/is writing will work on any Radeon N300 series card. Just wanted to verify that.

So, as a secondary question. There is no script that will convert a 9500 non-pro (128-bit) version and elevate it to 9700 Pro status?

This would take the resistor move and the BIOS flash?
