Was playing a bunch of tdm instagib this weekend and had a friggin blast.

Jump online gurus, its shaping up to be a great return to arena shooters.

Building maps is a surprisingly thing to do using their editor. In some ways is more fun than actually playing the game :)

This is all old footage, right? Or is that new stuff towards the end?

UT2004 was one of my absolute favourites. UT3 fell short for me as it wasn't as fast paced and they screwed up the translocator.

Played some instagib, check it out :D Start watching from 1.44

Check out the youtube link for 1440p 60fps goodness.

We should play this someday, all of us, do a proper guru3d tournament.

Yes it does, I tell you guys, this game is proper fun.

Love it bro, I've missed these kind of games.. Q3 was the last nice arena shooter I played, ****in loved it... rocket launcher/laser... :D

Tbh they should give the shock rifle in UT 1shot kill, like it was in Q3. It takes 3 shots to kill with the shock rifle in UT normal mode, and we all know that's unfair if the others have rocket launchers n **** like that.. o,O :S :D

Make it 1 shot kill like in q3.

Why doesn't it look like it? Go play the game. The graphics are incredible for the maps that are fully meshed.

Yeah, when i tried that Alpha 1v1 fps was even 100+ in some cases, single card. Adding many bots does reduce fps quite a bit though but still very much playable.

If its anything like UT99, than the shock rifle is just fine: primary does 60 dmg, so two shots to kill a freshly spawned enemy. You have to get them with a combo (secondary fire to shoot a sphere, than explode that sphere with a primary shot), as that does up to 240+ damage. Otherwise just do a head shot with the sniper gun for 150 dmg.

Ayway, this remake looks bloody brilliant.

    Thanks for the info.

Another launcher... when does it end? :( Steam, Origin, Blizzard, GoG, uplay, epic, when does it end? Which one did I forget?

... or they'd allow you to install games only, without the need for annoying drm measures (which they are, excluding GoG). Anyways, now I will get myself that demo too I guess and have a try with UT soon.

IIRC they plan on launching the game on steam at some point. It's currently in the Epic Launcher too because it ties into UE4. They release the assets from the game/maps on the UE engine so people can build their own maps, game modes, etc. The entire development of the Alpha is essentially open to anyone. Anyone can make their own weapons/maps/characters/etc and submit it to Epic, Epic then takes it and put's it on the market for either free or pricing it depending on what the creator of the asset wants. They already hired two of the people that we're just fans helping build the game. The one guy, Gooba, did the concept art for all the new weapons and the new map Titanpass. It's pretty cool to see community made stuff being brought into the game in a big way.

That being said, the game does have some issues. The interface is kind of confusing, I really don't care for the Hub system that they are using for server browsing. And they seem to be sticking with it going forward, despite people complaining about it constantly on the forums. Like I'm sure it will improve, but the majority of my friends that I try to get to play the game, complain about how confusing the menu system is.

Before you join any servers, download all the free maps on the market -- if a server changes to one of these maps after a match you'll be disconnected if you don't have it. They need to make it so that free maps can be downloaded during map switch and if it's a purchasable map, that you can buy it during map switch.

There are only 5 meshed maps (that I can think of) and only 3 of them are CTF. So don't go in expecting a finished game with lots of good looking maps. Most of them are unfinished, there are no textures and detail. The ones that are finished look great though. This also goes for weapons, some of the weapons haven't been updated, the UT3 meshes are there as place holders.

Be patient. There are some old school UT99 people playing this game that have probably hundreds of thousands of hours logged into it. They are very good at the game and they will make you look worthless. The game has a very high skill ceiling and these people are at the top. In the Hub channel there is a noob section, I recommend sticking there if you're new to the game. I also recommend playing CTF at the start, it's a little less chaotic.

The map looks good graphically and it's definitely filled with nostalgia, but honestly it's a really ****ty map in terms of competitive design. Titan Pass is much better in terms of gameplay.
