Unreal engine significant new feature? Bots!

    This item did not make the front page news. Well I dont think it did, anyway, the Unreal engines has a new heavy upgrade feature that must now propel the game engine back to the most powerful software on the planet. Other related items are on U Tube. Capcom will ahve to make Resident Evil remastered 2 & 3 & 7 and latest again.

    Well that's not really bots in the game sense, aka character controlled by the computer, but more a general purpose character creator which is pretty incredible.
    Those characters not only looks incredible but most importantly are provided fully rigged, with a ton of facial blend poses (facial expressions) and therefore ready for performance capture!

    For a photoscanned character 'ready to be animated' which means clean topology and without a rig, and of course without any level of customization as it's a one shot photoscan, you're looking at 600euros minimum.

    Add on top of that the work of a professional rigger (rigs are virtual skeletons that models are binded to, you move the left forarm bone and the binded triangles of the mesh move accordingly) and you're looking at a thousand dollars per character minimum.

    On top of that you need an artist to model a ton of facial expression range you're gonna blend between at runtime or buy photoscanned expressions, you're looking at 700euros here.

    Once you have all those assets you need to bring everything into the Unreal Engine, or Unity Engine, create some form of interface to interact with those facial blend shapes and start creating actual animations involving facial expressions.

    It all takes a lot of money, an insane amount of time, a lot of things can go wrong (you completed your character and realized the shoulders are too narrow? start over ) or have to be iterated on.

    With Meta Human Creator you can create, customize, extremely high fidelity characters, put them into your game as it is, grab your Iphone with facial features recognition sensors and capture live performance with the character moving accordingly in realtime, all it takes is a couple minutes.
    That's nuts.

    Those aren't bots by any stretch of imagination, it's just a ready to go 3d character model with no logic attached to it whatsoever.
    It's still incredible for what it is but those ain't bots, chief.

    You wait until pornoplanet gets hold of this tech and your viewing in with yer Oculus, you will know what a bot is then when your assets get grabbed. Cheif. ;)

    I saw the title and the word Bots, thinking that the coincidence was too good considering I had recently just re-installed my good ol' retail Unreal Tournament GOTY (where I have death and team death matches with tons of Bots), and how Fortnite to me will always be the "Game that killed Unreal Tournament" (or more precisely, UT's continuity in the industry as a franchise).

    Then I watched the video and I was disappoint, son.

    Modern gaming does not remember what Bots are, everything is online, and apparently can and should only be played by and with other human beings. Because "Bots are so 90s, dude.", similar to how EA told us all recently that nobody wants to play single-player games anymore. Ah well.

    On a side note, yeah, it's not Bots, but what it actually IS - indeed - (for what it is) is very impressive nonetheless.

    But wake me up when they make UT4 and include Bots with it. Then we'll talk.

    That's not a new tech about bots.
    That's just a new tech about real time facial animations.
