And VLC just tells me it was unable to find what was the video codec.

The sound plays correctly on MPC-HC though.

The audio format appears to be IEC 60958 PCM (which is basically uncompressed wave audio), and video appears to be MMEDIASUBTYPE_Base, at least that's the media type identifier.

I guess it's using a particular format for speed and licencing reasons, but not sure what it used for video.

What version of MPC-HC are you using? Are you using the latest LAV filters?

Hey, what is the videocodec of Your file? Go to AB videocapture settings and see what was used as the last codec. Or examine file with mediainfo and show us properties of that file. Shoulnd't be this file in .avi container btw?

Well, i dont want You tu loose hope, but this looks like broken recording. This file is uncompressed video in MKV, not a common mix. Its runtime is only half a second.

But if You had cut this file already then, well, you dont need any codec to play uncompressed video. Try to run whole file in Vdub tool with mkv plugin and see what gonna be displayed.

Hello, the recording is only a half second because i created a new record to fetch the data that was requested.

If I make a new one that last longer it won't work too. I just tough I wouldn't store a 200gb video as I cannot read it, since I can reproduce the problem on demand.

Here's an other one that is longer with the exact same issue. I didn't cut it with any software other than the hotkey to stop recording, straight from MSI Afterburner. Given the size of the file I hope it's possible to help me solve it without generating a hour video I wouldn't have enough storage to store at all.

I'm using Uncompressed because I don't want to compress in the first place, and MKV because I have the habit of working with MKVs. Recording uncompressed stuff in AVI gives, weirdly, smaller files and i'm afraid some data is lost in the AVI while my problem with the MKVs is probably something else.

The majority of players do not provide support for MKV playback with V_UNCOMPRESSED video. You can remux such video with ffmpeg to AVI without loosing quality via specifying "-vcodec rawvideo".

Why using MKV for VfW Codecs anyway?
