I probably could close some background stuff and beat that but bbvdd2 has a slightly better opty than me and Kinton has water cooling thats why I know they can beat me.
Intresting that he is at 2.9 and im at 3.0 and his time was better.
Ram, his g.skill is at 290 2.5-3-3-x.
if there is a competition, im sorry i am the only dothan user here, because my dothan clocks really bad in comparison with others. im trying to get one that clocks to 2.7, i'd be in 26-27 sec territory then.
someone please help me beat the a64 boys!!!!
What cooling are you running? Dothan's dont have much of a cold-bug so if you can run water/d-ice that would help some.
Also pi likes tight ram timings.
2.5 3 3 at 290 wow I had to take my 2.5 3 3 6 to 3 3 3 6 because it became unstable on me after a couple of weeks.. is that normal for ram to become unstable ? its rated DDR533 at 2.5 3 3 8 so its barly running its rated speed right now... i think its a mobo thing tho not a ram thing.
im running the stock ct-479 cooler. The problem is that my proc hits a wall at about 2.5. 2483 is rock stable at anything above 1.4v, 2508 locks up within seconds, voltage between 1.4 and 1.6(max) doesnt matter. Temps are high 40s, low 50s running prime for about an hour. Ram cant do better timings, and i cant afford other ram or water cooling.
Yea if you had dry-ice your chip would probably go higher, temps are too toasty.
See if you can get better on air though
Vicious what are your alphas set at? You shouldnt need cas3, try 2.5-4-4-x
Heh, quite frankly I'd be disappointed if that was all they went to ! The worst set of TCCD I've ever owned did 294MHz 2.5-4-4-7.
Yep, pi is not only about clock speed but memory speed and timings. Gotta get a high 1:1 clock with tight timings to do well........
I reckon phrozin will top this chart if he enters, hes got some top notch phase change on his FX-57, and i know it does at least 3.4Ghz, so theres not much beating that
Phrozen doesnt have phase running 24/7 I dont believe, just water.
EDIT#2: 39.234 secs, FSB at 209, ram timings 2-3-2-6-T1, stock voltages, stock air cooler with AS5
hmm if i change my 3 3 3 6 to 2.5 4 4 7 I think that would be slower eh? good article of how timings affect speed around here and CAS was not as important as once thought vs some of the other timings.
But if it would let me go past DDR560 and try for maybe 2.9Ghz 1:1 24/7 with good temps it would be worth it.
I am just hesitant ^^ after getting all those errors that nobody could figure out and it was ram the whole time, and memtest ran just fine so did prime95.
its binned for 2.5 3 3 6 tho at DDR533 and it does not do that anymore, when it was new it did but not now, atleast not gaming stable it will past memtest easy.
When I get a chance I'll post screenshot and all but this post will be my place holder until then. I'll edit in the screenshots tonight

aye caramba, all these opty's going below 30...
maybe i should get in on the opteron lovin but the entry fee is a bit high for me, might just try and squeeze my claw first
That claw will push some good speeds if you want it to. They just like a little voltage lovin.
yeah, i might try Ocing it, but for performance im cool right now
i even had my ram set just as SPD settings, didnt bother setting it to spec, just did that to lower my superpi time for this thread just now
to be honest im 110% happy with my performance, its just that i get itchy when i see how much faster stuff can be, and the thought that i could have it too call it benchfever
Ok, im back home now and have done some quick superpi benches, got 27.281 seconds so far, ON AIR!!! Pretty sure i can get it under 27 seconds with some tweaking...
Operton 146 @ 3.05Ghz 1:1 with memory. Running 1.45v, very low voltage for that clock
