Anyone got this game running? I mean I can run it but I get like 5fps when im lucky and it usually drops below whenever im moving. Does anyone know what I could do to make it run better? I would like to be able to get the journal at least!

yeah... i havent tried it on this new comp, but on my 600mhz compaq 128 pc-100 ram with voodoo3 it ran fine... and the graphics were really good... only thing that was slow as ass was like going out of the brit castle and seeing the whole town.
Well I was able to run it on my Celeron 333 with a voodoo banshee at 12-15fps and now i get lesser than 10. It's totally unplayable.

I got it and found out how to make it run great. You need 512 megs of ram to play it.Even at 256 megs its lagey but with 512 megs it rocks. Also check here I think there is a unoffical patch here http://rpgplanet.com/ultima9/
the trouble is a memory leak that causes it to dog out.

I doubt its a memory problem since my celeron had 128meg of ram pc100 and it ran at 15fps now i got it to run faster than 15fps but its choppy like hell while it wasnt on the celeron :\

I ran Ultima Ascension on a PIII 550, ATI Rage 128 w/ 256 MB PC100 RAM and it ran pretty good. It runs a hell of a lot better on a Voodoo in Glide though - smooth as butter. Only 16 bit though
I suggest borrowing a mates old voodoo card, as it is crap in D3D. Also, everyone had to do a lot of tweaking to get that game running. Make bloody sure you defrag proper before you install in. Runs fine in Win 2k or 98 - I seem to remember faster in Win 2k. I finished that game (takes a long time!) and am rather sad there will be no9 more Ultimas (actually check out: http://www.peroxide.dk/ultima/ - they are remaking Ultima 1 in full 3d!! Could be better than Ultima IX.
Anyway, your best bet is to ignore my rantings and look at the old forum...oh no it is closed. New ones are at:
Oh yes, also make sure you do a full install, do NOT use the compressed textures, and try with mo mip mapping.
