Wow, that didnt look likely, but when the people of each country spoke (after the judges and general country votes) it pushed them far far in front.
I'm so glad even though I'm British and we would have won... LOL!
The quality of songs has improved a lot since I last listened to Eurovision a few years ago, I even liked our song, haha!

Ukraines win spells what we (Europe) think of what they are enduring.
The message has surely been sent, we feel for you.
    All our best Ukraine.

I'll be the black sheep for saying this, but here we go.
Generally, people are so heavily biased and influenced.
All those points for Ukraine were all merit points or have some pity points between?
Let's ask ourselves: Would Ukraine win this contest if the war didn't existed ?
And before anything, don't throw rocks at me for writing what some of you didn't have the courage.
And to be clear, I want that war to stop not today, but yesterday or that it never happened.
I am just trying to point out that people didn't vote for the talent only. Just imagine, IF another country would be at war and participating at this contest, would it tip the balance into getting more points?

That wasn't the question. But let's leave at that, my post is already controversial as it is.

it's a nice gesture for a contest that's pure theater and means absolutely nothing, yet people are whining about the votes for Ukraine.

If you care about Eurovision in the first place, there's someything wrong with you.Looking for merit in EV,lol.

    ^^^ qft

Wish situation in Ukraine is not what it is atm, otherwise no way they would won Eurovision this year, there were much better songs then their. And I'm saying this as Ukrainian.

At least this victory would put the wind in their sails and let them know world is on their side.

I don't follow Eurovision on regular basis for about 15 years maybe, I watch maybe one contest in 5 years because past 15 years they've turned into the freak show with mostly trash songs and all kinds of nonsense happening on the stage. But this year it was clearly better, at least 1/3 of the song were really nice. Props to Italians for making nice stage, it would be even better but afaik they had some issues with Kinetic Sun so it remained static. Thumbs up to Italian audience on the event, they're really special.

I'm sure next year Eurovision song in Ukraine would look fantastic, hope songs would be even better than this year.

Hehe, we know there is much bias in Eurovision.
The statement presented this time is the amount of support we, the rest of Europe, have for Ukraines plight.
I dont think anyone is under any illusion over here, it was used for something positive this time.

    Yeah, I get it.
However, empathy or not, other fellow musicians would feel that their dedication, effort, talent and merits would be simply ignored.
    Just saying the unpopular opinion.
OK, you can throw rocks at me.

Thing is in Eurovision the fellow musicians usually aren't horribly competitive and are happy to get anything they get. And it seemed to me that all the acts there supported Ukraine's win.

I wouldn't even count anyone elses effort, dedication or talent over theirs. Merits shouldn't matter in competition tho.

Tho I did like Ukraine's song over most. Simply because I love the folk elements.

I've only got marshmallows to bung, tasty ones, catch... :)

Your thoughts arent lost on us but the standings below Ukraine have meaning too.
Plus it was easy to see while watching the votes come in, the Judges and professional votes for each country seemed to more closely follow how good the songs were, Ukraine didnt do bad.
The popular votes from the public right at the end sent the message by putting Ukraine miles in front.
We would have been disappointed had that not happened, it was great to see.

Nah you are plenty fun lol.

I also understand your point. But then again EV has always had undertones with politics. And juries voting their neighbours even if the songs are a bit eh.
