Normally I would have written that into the W7 thread but I think it deserves some attention. TweakGuides Tweaking Companion for Windows 7 Of course there is the free version and a deluxe version for cheap $4.50. Maybe he's not up2date with the games anymore, but I always enjoyed those Tweaking Companions.
I agree; the thing is over 400 pages long, and it certainly deserves a thread of its own. I haven't yet gotten around to reading it yet, though I've glanced over it, and all I can say is: holy @&#%! I actually didn't know that the Windows key + Tab key combined make the desktop go into 3D mode, so I already learned something new in spite of merely glancing at the PDF. Good stuff!
Too bad he doesn't have a chart comparing the regular (free) and deluxe (paid) version of this guide. Has anybody bought the deluxe edition already? Are those really the only differences the deluxe edition has?
The Deluxe edition doesn't offer any information that the free one doesn't, it's just easier to use. It's really more of something you do to help him out if you like the free version.
It certainly took a lot of work and dedication to create this guide but 99% of the information in it I knew already - I wish there would be an "advanced" edition for which I could justify spending $4.50. :frown:
These guides are excellent and I'd love to buy the full version at $4.50 (which is still a bargain IMO) but the only payment choice is PayPal and I don't like using them as I've had bad experiences with them in the past.
I find out of all the O/S I have used, Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit requires the least amount of tweaking out of all of em. Infact, almost none seem to be required now.
Microsoft seemed impressed with his work on the last one, the Vista TGTC, so they gave him a free copy of Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit to do this one.
Windows 7 really need tweaking? i mean..yeha sure its nice to have tweaks but, it laready runs fast, light, speedy etc etc ..
Well a tweak to set icon spacing for folders and files in Explorer would be nice. Oh and a fix for the renaming glitch/slow windows refresh issue although that's technically a bug.
Right click on the desktop and choose 'personalize'. Then to 'windows color and appearance', then open ' classic appearance properties' and you will see a scrollable menu of many items that include icon spacing, horizontal and vertical and you can enter the values there. This in Vista and I'm sure its that way in Win 7. (I was on Win 7 for several months but went back to Vista temporarily).
the TWEAK word only comes up my mind for PERFORMANCE. lol how noob iam tweak includes the tips and tricks etc right?
I printed and read the whole guide. I did the same for the XP and Vista ones in the past. All of them are excellent, and they help you comprehent in deep your OS. They help you discover features that you didn't know they exist. As for the people who wonder why the word tweak in the name of the guide, i believe that he uses it because of the name of his site (www.tweakguides.com). Don't forget also, that the first XP guide, offered some major tweaking. For Vista and Seven, the writer admits that there is no need for serious tweaking.
