TSMC to make 3nm chips for Intel in 2020

Likely because its both. Intel is diversifying foundries.

I bet Intel is paying a premium, which will be passed on depending what the chips are used for.

2022 seems too near for a 3nm switch

Intel HAS contracted for 7n(m) and 5n(m)

the only Contracts issued (to date) for 3n(m) are with Apple and AMD.
this doesn't come out the week AFTER an earnings call. it comes out before as it stokes investor interest in both companies.

 

TSMC has been innovating, while Intel has been consumed with a predilection for stock buy backs!
