I feel like a noob asking this question, but what are laserdisc movies? Do you mean DVD's?

I suppose if you make the cut off 50 years there are alot of movies that don't make the list.

If you going to go back 50 years, you might as well go back further, most of the "greatest" films were ahead of their time. For each era there was a film that was generally not accepted because of it's forsight. Just the decade before '50 and the early part of '50 there are some films that rival even this new millennium

If you go back to 1954 you'd have to leave out:

Citizen Kane (1941): considered the best movie of all time in many circles far ahead of it's time in cinematography and content.

Fantasia (1940): Disney's monumental animation. An undertaking the would only be considred possible now due to computer animation. To hand illustrate an equvilant in todays standards would be nearly impossible with the present set up of the studio structure.

Day the Earth Stood Still (1951): A film which elevated itself above and beyond the sci-fi "B" movies of the time. Adressed the political and cultural aspects of alien visitation for the first time in film.

It's a Wonderful Life (1946): I don't think I need to go into detail here.

Here's some close calls that don't make the cutoff:

    The Quiet Man (1952)
    Singing in the Rain (1952)
    High Noon (1952)
    Harvey (1950)
    From here to Eternity (1953)
    SunSet Blvd. (1950)

By the way African Queen was 1951.

If I had to choose the last 50 years, in no particular order:

    1.On the WaterFront
    2. Dr. Zhivago
    3. Lawerence of Arabia
    4.North by Northwest
    5.Pcycho
    6.2001 A Space Odyssey
    7.The Hustler
    8.The Wild Bunch
    9.Midnight Cowboy
    10.Network
    11. StarWars
    12. Apocolpse Now
    13.The Deer Hunter
    14.Raging Bull
    15. Shindler's List
    16.Easy Rider
    17. River's Edge
    18. Spartacus
    19. Blade Runner
    20. Ring Trilogy.

These are a few I love , that are probably others that are more important filmwise, but I did'nt like quite as much, or I like just as much, but overlooked them.

A laserdisc is the huge disc on the left in this picture, the other is a DVD. That should illustrate the difference for ya ;)

One Flew Over A Cuckoo's Nest was great! The Shining was a HUGE dissapointment to me, people were saying like it's the scariest film ever made and even in polls it was voted number 1 so I rushed out and bought it. The only part that scared me was the old lady having a bath!
