    Is this game linear by any chance? I'm not willing to pay 60 dollars for a game if it's straight down corridors.

    Its linear throughout its campaign, but you can go back and explore past areas and find new things. Even so, its still a great game.

    As far as IQ and Performance go this has to be one of the best out-of-the-box games I've played in years (and no ini tweaking required :)). 60+fps and super smooth with everything on Ultra except TressFX and SSAO. IQ with 4xFSAA & SweetFX is on par with AC3 but with better performance and fancier PostFX. I've never played a TR game before and the opening level is fun. Once the kinks get ironed it's going to be be a blast to play.

    Note: After the patch with TressFX enabled, Lara's hair flashes to a solid light brown texture and the performance drops to 2fps!

    Wow I just reached the part where there is a ritual with some Guru dude and it looks quite next-gen in this particular moment.

    Wish the game's visuals were consistent like that.

    It's a lot of fun going back to previous areas because events have usually changed them such as plane crashes and explosions plus the weather and time of day changes too so they have a different feel to them.

    I really love this game; it's just a shame that it was released in this state. The patch fixes some issues such as the exclusive fullscreen mode and missing effects plus improves TressFX hair slightly by reducing the clipping zone but it still has a ton of issues for me such as:

    1. Hitching and split-second freezes whenever the game auto-saves;

    2. Framerate drops to 1-5 fps if I switch FXAA to SSAA while TressFX hair is enabled;

    3. The game still freezes my PC after about 45-60 minutes of playing it, albeit I was using the original Tomb Raider SLI flag rather than the Hitman Absolution one;

    4. TressFX hair still causes a big performance hit, it still spazzs out with SLI and I've confirmed that it uses around 400-500 MB of VRAM. That means I can't use it with 2xSSAA otherwise I get even more hitching and 1-2 second freezes. Obviously my VRAM is a limiting factor here but I would hope that the optimzations promised for NVIDIA cards will include reduced memory usage too as well as better performance.

    5. I'm seeing screen tearing with double or triple buffered v-sync enabled in-game which I wasn't before this patch.

    The patch does fix the on screen affects, which I never noticed I had missing. In terms of performance I think it is mainly those on Nvidia that got fixes as my 7950 and Ultimate settings + FXAA is still more or less the same.

    all tomb raider games seem to have bugs on first release.

    even some of the older ones still have bugs. but it mostly related to dealing with compatibility problems now

    Seems that Tessellation still breaks the game for me. Regular crashes with it enabled, as before. Meh. Suppose I just need to disable it and hold out for a driver update.

    well at least the devs fixed some minor stuff (like fullscreen bug etc) really quickly and they communicate with people through the official forums. AC3 has a big memory leak and performance issue and not a word from Ubisoft Kiev was mentioned.

    U3 was the most overrated title on the PS3 imo. Great level design etc but story was WEAK as hell. Also Kojima has mentioned in lot of his interviews that future games will run on the Fox engine and will be multi platformers. So including the xbox and pc.

    off topic: ground zeroes and Fox engine will be showcased in GDC by Kojima :nerd:

    It does improve performance for me (better min framerate) with my main rig. Running EF mode of 5760x1200, Ultimate preset.

    I happened to have just taken a screenshot of my EF benchmark, exited and within minutes saw that there was an update....took the benchmark at exactly the same setting and saw an improvement in score. I did also not that the shadow cast by her hair, while not perfect, was getting better.

    My machine always freezes requring a hard reset, superzeus, and that happens both with the original build and the patched version using the v314.14 drivers. I'm not exactly sure what causes these freezes to be honest as people claim it is tessellation but I've still had a few when both tessellation and TressFX were disabled. I have seen a pattern where the hitching (split second freezes) get more and more frequent, usually occurring when the game is saving, followed by an eventual system freeze after about 45-60 minutes of play.

    There are quite hard loadings happening in this game. It freezes my game for 1-2 seconds but I never crashed so far. I've been getting those hard loadings quite more after the patch. When they happens, I guess it comes down to overclocks stability and stuff like that.

    Still, it shouldn't be that hard on loadings. They don't look healthy at all lol.

    I noticed I have a Download Optional Movies option in the launcher and in the game there is a Square-Enix Trailers option that tells me to download the movies. I presume the two are the same but how do I download these? When I click on the Download Optional Movies option in the launcher I'm taken to the Steam Store page but there is nothing there to download; it just says that I need the base game (which I already have) and that the game is coming soon (huh?!?).
