Tomb Raider 3/Gold:LA

Discussion in 'Videocards - AMD Radeon' started by The 1 Tweaker, Aug 20, 2001.

  1. I was wondering if I should have posted this in software section, but it does concern my Radeon and its features, so it belongs in ATI section, but it is for a software title, so............
nevermind.

Anyways, before upgrading my Radeon I have Tomb Raider 3 and Gold:LA (Lost Artifact) installed on my system. Since installing my Radeon, and turning on most of the features thru Raid-on tweaker, the screen for TR3/Gold:LA is corrupted. it is somewhat tough to describe, but I'll try. It desplays in full-screen, but it looks like it was squished 50% and then stretched vertically. And I think it doubles the display (Dual display on one monitor). I'll post a screenshot when I get home.

The only new features of TR3 from TR2 is AGP textures, and I think that has something to do with it. For DirectX, I have AGP texturing tiling on (Macro and Micro). I haven't disabled them, because I uninstalled TR3, but not Gold. I think that this is the problem, but not sure. Should I 'restore defaults' of Radeon features and see if that fixes it and then enable features one-by-one to find the problem or what?

Thanks for help.

    What Res. is it at.

  3. I don't think that res is the solution. I'll fool around with that too; see if that makes a difference. I usually have it at 1024x768 32-bit.

  4. Well, I said F* it to TR3Gold:LA. It was a warez copy anyways, but I didn't want to delete it because I don't want to pay $30 for half a game IMO.

I reinstalled TR3 and load the game and I got the same corruption.
I think its a bad Warez Copy.

  6. No because it worked when I had my TNT. anyways, TR3:LA uses the same engine as TR3 and TR3 is FuXor up too, so it is not just TR3:LA.

Anyways, I remembered I saved the zips of game, so I can reinstall it. (I still wouldn't pay any money for that half a game, but it was enjoyable......)

Also, any Valuable help is appreciated. I'll try to change some seeting in Raid-On Tweaker related to AGP texturing and see if that helps...

Let's see... how did I fix that again...

I think it's that damn AGP Aperature setting in BIOS. Change the setting...64 worked for me. I've gotten all five TombRaiders to finally work. Sometimes the game would install no problem, but couldn't run it.

I was getting pretty bummed not being able to get Lara to do the splits...

I know my card is from Nvidia, but just thought I might give a suggestion. I used to have an ATI Xpert@Play (til last month) and my wife has an ATI AIW 128 Pro AGP.

This message was edited by bigblue on 23 Aug 2001 07:57 PM

  17. Thanks Bigblue. I have changed it from 64 to 128 and got a good 3dMark increase in score, so that is why I kept it. But I'll try your suggestion and change it back. I also think that it has something to do with the AGP features of the Radeon for DirectX (ie AGP texture tiling:Macro and Micro). I haven't tried TR1 (but I'm sure that it would work). I know that TR2 and Tr4 works. It is just TR3 and TR3: LA. They run, but the graphics are corrupt.

Be careful while changing your AGP Aperature sizes .. sometimes games simply do not run anymore. 64 MB is the most common and recommended setting.

  19. When I installed my Radeon, it was at AGP 2x and 64MB AGP aperature. Since then, I bumped it to AGP 4x and 128 MB of AGP Aperature size. No problems changing it, and still no problems, (and a good increase of 3DMark score) that is why I kept the settings (AGP 4x and 128 Aperature). I have just been busy playing other things instead.

  20. Look at next post.
