hi i've spent some times playng with my overclock lately an i want you to answer this "ethical" question :nerd:. I used to run a 3.8 @ 1.35 on my 920 but it wasn't fully stable so i decided to find the best rock stable overclock. i ended up with this:

    3.6 @ 1.250 max load 67°
3.7 @ 1.287 (testing now but should be ok) max load 70°
    3.8 rock stable not tested

now my question: it's better to squeeze this 100mhz out of the cpu, or the price in terms of voltage to pay is too high?

    this was with:
    turbo disabled
    HT on
    cpu pll: 1.84
    qpi: 1.35
    load line calibration off
EPU 2 phase control: full phase
    cpu diffrential amplitude: 800mv
ioh and ich voltage to auto (need help here)

is my configuration ok or do i have to change something?

Load line you should enable as it allows you to have lower lower vcore with same results

cpu pll put up to 188
ioh and ich put up to between 115 and 118

    try that:)

If your cpu is a d0 you should be able to hit 3.8 stable possibly 4.ghz
Use Linx,Intel burn test,Occt and Prime 95 overnight in this order,Linx normally finds instability in minutes whereas prime can take an hour or 2

    thanks guys!

it's a D0 and i made the stress test with IBT (15 cycles at very High), once i find the max stable frequency i'll do a night of Prime 95 on it.

i'll try with your settings veteran, thanks.

As you arent running Crossfire, there are only a few games that will benefit from a faster CPU.
If you are CPU limited and frame rates are too low then it may be worth clocking your CPU more.
(assuming this is for gaming, you didnt specify)

That's a good point...yes i mainly use this rig for gaming, but i'm planning to go crossfire soon, i'm just waiting for the prices to drop a little. I think i'm overclocking just to see where can i push this cpu rocksolid. my temps are fine at 3.6 1.25v 34° on the desktop and max 45° while gaming, this with my Slipstreams at 50%, so i think a can push it a little further.

now i'm IBTing at 3.8 1.30 v and realtemp show the max to be 74° that's the limit i think. Maybe i can reduce a little the voltage or try 3.9 -4.0 with the same :nerd:.

At 3.6Ghz an extra 100mhz will be barely noticeable.

That's an overall increase of 0.3% or something like that.

yes i know. now i'm testing 3.8 at 1.287v...let's see if it's solid and if i'm satisfied with the temps. if not i'll return to 3.6.

btw 3.6 to 3.8 is 5% increase...so barely noticeable too.
