I never stopped any of those, thought I would never stop em. I just do not do em that much anymore. Simple.
I knew when i was young i wouldnt stop, but what i didn't know is that i would slow down meaning i don't play alot of different games like I used to. I play the games I'm hooked on, mostly driving sims. But I'm interested in the upcoming space sims like Star Citizen, Elite dangerouse etc...I played Eve for a long time in the past. I just built a new gaming rig so i guess im getting back into more now, something about new hardware inspires the desire to play more!
With the wrong hardware (such as a GTX970), Linux can easily be worst than Windows..... I've been fighting with this since Sunday. Since I'm no longer running Folding@Home, I don't need 2 systems, so I'm trying to configure my Folding rig to match my "play" system, but Linux hates my GTX970. My son is getting my "play" system, running Edubuntu as soon as I can get Linux installed and running properly on my Folding rig.
I've never had an issue with my 970 on Linux. I've ran Debian, Mint, Fedora, and SUSE with my 970. Ubuntu just has some odd driver support from Nvidia. Can't really say it's Linux, but Mac which is essentially FreeBSD with a gui runs my 970 fine and completely native and out of the box.
Then come fix mine....and everyone else's. I can't get a UI in Linux without using "nomodeset". I've tried OpenSuSE 13.1 & 13.2, Fedora 17-22, Ubuntu 13.x, 14.04 & 14.10, and BitDefender Rescue. They all appear to halt at a black screen trying to load the UI. This never happened with my 7950 installed and I'm not the only one experiencing this according to Google.
when you are at the black screen try pressing CTRL + ALT + F1 and login with your user name and password (you wont see any letters while typing this is normal for password protection reasons) this will/should put you in like dos mode you can setup by commands your gtx970 from there, I ran kali Linux with both my gtx970's with NVidia drivers with no issues once I got the drivers and x sever setup I found Linux quite easy to break if you are not to sure what or how to use it, once I had it setup how I wanted it I left it at that because it can be a right pain in the ass if you install somethings although im just a novice Linux user it sound to me the x server is not config correctly this can happen after installing the amd or NVidia drivers or even just after you have finished installing Linux on some pc's my advice would be to read up on how to config the x sever on what ever flavour Linux your trying to install .. hope this helps I also had to change a couple of settings in my bios (think it was on setting in the bios is called "other os" seting and I aslo had to disabled fastboot for the flavour Linux I was using) what I have done now is installed my flavour of Linux on an 32gig usb stick it has all the tools I need, although slow booting once the tools I use are loaded up in the ram its no longer an issue.
To the op sorry to hear that I go through phases sometimes I just take breaks for a few months. Really I just got back into playing rust. Awesome game by the way. For the hardware portion I'm satisfied with my rig I game with the specs on The side with a 50.inch plasma 1080p. I don't need 3 monitors or 4k fine with 60 fps. I feel my card purchase has to give me years of enjoyment to pay for itself I won't be upgrading for a couple years to come still.
summers is coming so I will have a good break from gaming I probs look back at gaming in the winter hopefully there will be some games I want to play by then, still trying to sell my main system I keep the lower end system for music creation and maybe light weight gaming in the winter the low end pc I will keep only has an gtx760 2 gig card but that will do for light gaming ... I guess. problem with trying to sell my other system is it cost to build at todays prices (using same hardware) over £2000 so trying to find someone who will pay £1000 are slim :/ just goes to show me, the hardwares not worth the money in the first place lol :/
That more sounds like DSDT settings not being correct. You might need to manually change your tables, or set it to boot in legacy mode.
OP, I can't say I blame you really. I am still very much into gaming, but my full interest in it has taken a bit of a backseat. What remains of my interest in PC gaming (and gaming in general), is rooted in games that are not necessarily new. When it comes to console gaming I far more enjoy going retro and busting out the Dreamcast, PS2 and Super Nintendo than I do playing anything new. In fact, I am currently playing through Dragon Quest VIII for the PS2 and enoying it very much In regards to PC gaming, I also like to go back and play some older stuff that I missed along the way, and am still playing some of my favorites from a few years ago. c1: I have found that new releases are holding less and less interest with me and honestly, the newest game I actually bought and enjoyed was either Tomb Raider or the Rise of the Triad reboot, neither of which are really "new". I can say I am very much looking forward to the new Unreal Tournament though.
I have bought dying light about 4 days or so for my ps4 I played it for about 4 hours none stop and quite enjoyed it although have not had the want to go back and continue it just yet, good news that the devs are going to add new modes/maps for free so that's encouraging..
