yea the years are flying by these days, so feeling got to get out and do more things before im to old and dont have the nrg to do anything bit like my mate, he's been talking of buying his dream boat for so many years even though he has the money to buy it, he's now saying he's to old now to and tired to justifiy buying one now. i guess he just wants to chase his dream rather than have it which i can kind of understand heeh ..
I've never been into the upgrading addiction. I keep a PC for as long as it can play the games I want to play at at least 30 fps on low settings. Then, and only then, do I consider a new PC. Since this normally takes 5-6 years to happen, it makes no sense to upgrade the existing machine so all new hardware is the answer. I have changed out video cards, sound cards, and power supplies but that's as far as I have gone. No building for me. I actually gamed on two HP laptops from 2006-2014 and was satisfied with the experience. I haven't had a console since the Super Nintendo. As to the age thing, it can't be that since I'm 66 and still as much into games as I was when pong was all the rage. However, gaming is not and never was, my life. My entertainment life, yes for the most part, but that's it.
i lost interest a few years back and took a break just to come back for gw2 and DAI but both dissapointed me ... i mainly listen to music or stream tv shows but yet i keep upgrading and upgrading just something i feel the need to do. hoping good games that actually catch my attention come out . now playing wolfensten new order which i tried last year but i did not have a controller and did not like the controls on mouse and kb but am now having a blast but thsi is very rare so i am unsure what to play after this.
Try Divinity Original Sin. As a original Baldurs Gate fan this game really brought back some memories. It's a great game. I hear ya on not having the excitement with a lot of the new titles. I am 32 and I have been gaming since Kings Quest by Sierra Studios. I too have a ton of games in my library that I am slowly working my way through. Don't look at your computer as something that is the primary source of fun, look at it as supplemental when the mood strikes. I have found that when I force myself to play (due to so many unpplayed titles in my library) I don't have much fun. When I sit down to play bc I have the urge then I pull up the game I want and it's much more fun. Like a few others stated, VR is coming along with 4k and the new Direct x. I think we are going to see big jumps in graphics where even the biggest complainers won't have much to say. I hope you don't sell your system, Best Adam
I feel the same as everyone else is saying. I don't think my interest in computers has gone away, I'm just instead spending more time watching stuff on my computer (Youtube, Vice, tv shows and movies, etc). That, and I've been more interested in security stuff as a hobby, and trying to get into Linux more. (Modern Windows is another part of my lack of interest I think, I'm just not optimistic about Win 10). ^ This. There are some indie gems that come out every so often and some big name games that aren't too bad once the price drops, but not enough to justify whatever pretty looking game engine is the top dog right now. I'd rather have some visually interesting art and fun than photo realistic simulations. Everyone knows the best physics are broken physics. Then with emulators too, you can literally spend the next decade of your life on whatever your current hardware is and going back to older games. And this ^ After kids my time for a basic thought went away. Priorities get changed, time and money that went into games goes into more responsible things. That said, I can't wait till mine are a bit older so they can play the games I grew up on.
Unless something life changing happens, I'll keep playing games. The only problem I have is that I can sometimes spend more time getting that perfect FPS with the highest possible amount of detail instead of actually playing the game. This because I want to see how well my rig can perform and I don't really have anything super high-end and buying top stuff is so expensive and dont give much performance increase.
A lot of you hit it on the head. Games lost their excitement with all the follow-ups. How many times do I want to play Assassins Creed, just in a different setting? GTA, etc... Innovation is gone, it's time for the cash cow. Over and over the same damn thing. What I do, is playing all the old ones again, modded with HD graphics (where available), and my excitement returned. Brilliant stories and ATMOSPHERE, whether they are FPS, RPG, whatever (Morrowind, Half Life, System Shock, Deus Ex, Oblivion, Outcast, Stalker...). New games have lost these two things for me: A good story and atmosphere. Look at the Thief franchise... graphics not top of the line, but the atmosphere! And what did they do with the new Thief? Ruined the franchise, simply superficial ****e wrapped in nice effects. No thank you. Bring back the studios and writers that really cared about their product, people that were artists and storytellers, not ruled by bean-counters and spreadsheets.
To be honest I am really disappointed in PC gaming I blame consoles with low end hardware, and lazy game developers who port there games to the PC and they are only fit for the bin I used to love it. I still love PC hardware and tweaking and improving and testing it. I also still enjoy trying new software (windows) and tweaking it. I still buy the odd game in the hope that it plays as well as it looks. I hope DX12 will bring real changes to gaming I want games to look awesome but be fun to play looking awesome gets boring after a while. mmmmm bit of a rant
WTH?! You wanna say that you have more money now after you found a girlfriend? Girlfriend(s) and more money don't go one with each other in same sentence. In my case every "new girlfriend event" I had backthen was followed by direct attack on my wallet... Or maybe she's rich, OK I get it, lucky bastard... jk
yeah but wearing bleeding edge *** on top of your head is a direct opposite of casual and relaxed. maybe if they had something like glasses...
Dont think i'll ever say bye to PC gaming, I def will play less though and buy less as the years go on. I grew up on Spectrums/BBC and Amigas so for me it's still an interesting and fun ride... Plus I love my rts/strategy games which I dont think will ever be matched on a console.
Gaming is getting better these days, with devs going the crowdfunding route and showing publishers the finger. Though Star Citizen is an extreme. These millions over millions are the projected hopes of quite many frustrated gamers. I wonder when Chris Roberts will break down, being expected to deliver nothing else but the ultimate salvation
My steam library is 273 games, my 360 library is 100 games, my ps3 library is 50 games, my x1 has 2 games gladly, wii u 10 games and wii 15 games. I've possibly played 10% of these.... And then theres Origin, GoG and ufap. I play mostly WoT cause it is easy and casual as hell. I do not feel like playing more then 3-4 hours a week. While I would have time with other hobbies to play way more but nah nope nay. It ain't the same when in past (10 years a go) I would just spend 50 hours a week gaming. I totally understand why you are fed up. Even tho I do think at the moment would be best time to be a pc gamer IF it wouldn't have gotten so stale in our minds it is hard to start enjoying it again. And well after starting to get way more exercise it is totally way more fun. And meeting new people is way more fun and women are way more fun (at times).
I'm suck at home (medical condition) but i know what you're saying all the aaa titles are meh hardware is meh(hopefully Skylake may change that) but I've gone back to games like Pharaoh,Civ 3, these half finished 16 bit games gimme the ****s
You are simply burned out. You should be cycling through different hobbies, not just one on repeat. I sold my gaming PC like 8 months simply because I was tired of upgrading, and didn't have much time to play either. I switched to my PS4 and started watching netflix/Amazon prime for a bit, and then switch to gaming on it recently. Now, I am starting to crave building a new PC again. Possibly sometime in May or later. Moral of the story, have multiple hobbies, and cycle through them, so you don't burn yourself out by doing one over and over again.
This. I've been gaming almost everyday for around 35 years and yes the secret is variety. Although ive gotten fed up or certain games/genres ive never burnt myself out totally. However i have burnt out on fighting games long ago due to Neo Geo in its Heyday sadly. I dont play them anymore as the Neo Geo killed it along with Tekken 1-3. (This is when fighting games peaked) Also in the summer gaming is in its infancy, i game alot less in the summer than the autumn/winter.
I suppose if you have a noodle neck then maybe it might be hard to relax I guess. A welding helmet can weight around 32 oz and some people have to wear them almost all day long. Oculus supposedly weights 15 oz. C'mon now, don't be a puss n boots.
