Most of us also want microsoft gone.Linux is better and faster than windows All linux need is all game library of steam.
we want gaming OS.Where only games related files run on background which will be faster than any windows.

Thats exactly the idea this nerd Sweeney talks.

I also think M$ wants windows to become closed as mac. I mean, windows has like 100 times more games than MAC, but most importantly.. the important games are always on windows. Except when they are on consoles.. but then they still arent on mac. So mac is like expensive toy that is not for gamers.

And linux is another disaster of the os. They dont even have a proper ui, yet..

I think people should read the whole article

    https://www.theguardian.com/technol...-pc-games-development-epic-games-gears-of-war

Personally, I think Tim Sweeney has more experience and knowledge of the PC games industry than everyone who posted in this thread combined. People should pay attention to what he has to say.

I think M$ have decided that if they kill PC gaming in the process of turning Windows into a closed-system like Xbox, so be it. They have consistently neglected Windows gaming in favor of their Xbox development over the last 10 years, I really don't think they would care if Windows gaming died a death. In fact, it might just be good for them, they could focus all their efforts on Xbox.

Pc gaming cant be shutdown. Its impossible.Think youself about this.Even microsoft stop making windows or shut down their windows system even still pc gaming wont be dead.if this happens pc gaming can be shfit to other platform.
Maybe that time google or steam release their OS for pc and LINUX is already here.

No one is disputing his experience.
We, at least I think he is just lying to get the more gullible PC gamer into a panic.

That article you linked to has him claiming that UWP will fail in the long run, now just 4 short months later UWP is going to take over the world and force Win32 out in a matter of years.

Essentialy, if someone hates MS then they will believe it even though it makes no sense.

Be careful with the word most. It's simply not true. Linux is doomed to all but embedded OEM OS's on other electronics where they don't have to pay licensing fees to use the kernel. It will never become the dominant PC or gaming OS and "most" people don't want it to. Windows 10 is the wave of the future.

That is simply not true that "most of us" want Microsoft gone. Without Microsoft and their push in the early years to get a PC in every home you would be singing a different tune. Linux will never become a dominant OS until it becomes more user friendly and marketed as such. Even in its current state Linux is still a bit more than what the average joe can handle. Whereas Windows has reached a point where you hardly have to do anything to have it ready to use.

there should be a gaming OS with in windows 10.For example if u want to play game then activate gaming os in win 10 then it boots in gaming os with less work load in background only games related files run.this way games run more smotth with less hardware needed.

Yeah, Linux is to far behind now to have any chance.

SteamOS has been a massive wasted opportunity, Valve announced it at the best time as W8 was not doing well and they had a chance to at least make a dent.

Valve have done very little with SteamOS, while W10 is approaching 50% on the Steam survey.

Vulkan, while not quite as good as DX12 could have made a difference, yet Valve did nothing with Doom when they should have been throwing money at Bethedsa to get it on Linux.

The reality is that Microsoft could do whatever they want. People are forced into everything MSFT wants from them.

Ever more reason why Vulkan (And why every Vulkan game should be on Linux) > DX12. Vulkan benefits everyone. DX12 only benefits Microsoft and it's been highly underwhelimg thus far from all their hype.
Not that Vulkan is magically better but you get it.

UWP/UAP has been highly underwhelming. GoW:U and QB were embarrassing.

This entirely. Valve should have went to companies like Bethesda to get their games on SteamOS. There are I believe about 200 pages of games for SteamOS, but how many of them are AAA games? Steam for Mac has more AAA games than SteamOS has even.

Source 2 engine will have native Vulkan Support right? so I guess we will see more games supporting Vulkan once Source 2 is released, and hopefully more game engines will follow.

Hopefully Unity will add support, a lot of games use that, and Unreal and Cry Engine.... Vulkan just needs the big engine providers to provide support and to show the game devs that yes it is indeed a viable api and that it opens up other platforms to them by using it...

It just felt like a missed opportunity.

They could of had Doom pop up as now available on SteamOS when you log in, maybe even a small discount on the day of the patch.
Will be a while before a game this big gets Vulkan support.

It's like they are waiting for things to happen, rather than making them happen.
The chance has passed them by as W10 marketshare just keeps increasing, and like you said even OS X has better support.

I don't even like idea of Vulkan, the more OS's they have to support the greater the chance of problems at launch and poor or non existent post launch support.

Vulkan will either be mostly ignored, or used to milk as much money as possible out of consumers.

In all honesty, your entire post is filled with speculation and random questions that have nothing to do with anything, and then ends with how things don't "work as if this was a perfect world" as if a perfect world is reality and it's microsofts fault that we're not in a perfect world.

I love articles like this, it really brings out the tinfoil hat community

actually w10 market share increase has slowed down in the latest months.
only 2% raise from may to june.
    -> https://www.netmarketshare.com/operating-system-market-share.aspx?qprid=10&qpcustomd=0

there are 5 main reasons for that:

    - negative 1st hand experiences after upgrading
    - negative reports about problems by others
    - negative media coverage of the whole "force upgrade" thing (rightly so!)
    - many people realize they can do everything with windows 7 as well
    - certain knowledgable IT specialists already confirmed that windows 10 has more open vulnerabilities at the moment than windows 7

    lets see how it develops.
but i don't expect any reason for a big gain especially after the free period ends now...
