I've never really dabbled in SSD's cept a notebook that had it pre installed. I did spend quite a bit, but its my 1st major overhaul since like 2005ish and I don't really just dump money for the heck of it :p. Regardless I would like to know other people's opinions :)
Saw some reviews say that the SSD wasn't that much faster compared to a normal HDD.

I think most people prefer the 120 GB OCZ Vertex 2 over that one TBH.

The Kingston is nearly $80 cheaper factoring in the rebate, Is there a notable performance gain with an increased read speed of 86 mbs?

edit: nvm, after searching found a one around $200 after mir. A bit slower, but still faster than the kingston. Still unsure :S

You will notice a huge performance gain over a normal HDD with any SSD. The extra $80 isn't worth and extra 86mbs imo. I would suggest waiting a few months for the new generation of sata 6G SSDs though, like corsair performance 3 series (480mb/s :)).

I can't utilize sata 3 as my mobo doesn't support it and I can't get a pci-e converter because I want to SLI down the road :/.

Save your $$ and go with the 64gb crucial C300 run it on your sata 2 ICH10 :)

Below average performance for SSD's at the moment. You can do better imo.

I just bought a 64GB Intel SSD yesterday and I can say that it made a huge difference. Its only for my OS and a few applications since it isn't very large. But I can say a SSD is by far the best upgrade to a PC right now. I wouldn't go all out and buy the most expensive, fastest drive though.

Nah, for SATA 2 the OCZ Vertex 2 are much better.

Vertex 2 are excellent bang for buck SSD's.

Guess I'll check out the Vertex more, they do seem to be quite nice for the price.

I just bought and installed a Vertex 2, I'll pop in again after I reinstall windows to let you know how it is.

Yes they are but if you have SATA 3 then it's C300.

If you have SATA 3 then it's "wait for Vertex 3 Pro or C400"

Well I would like to put at least some other stuff on the SSD rather than just a boot drive.
Probably will consider the Vertex since it seems so highly recommended. Heck I may the Kingston too since I got like 200 bucks worth of MIR back this week o_O Took forever >.>

How stable are the prices for SSD? I have a tendency to buy stuff just before the price drops -.-

Actually i wouldnt say so, c300 has better 4k reads which is 90% of OS... meaning apps/browsing/games/etc

There is no point in buying an SSD now, the next gen SSD is around the corner so i'd say wait it out.

The performance difference compared to the ones in the market now is huge so you would be a fool to buy one now.
