Engine support is not an all out solution, especially with DX12. It sure helps immensely, but the game programmers still have to be more competent than DX11.

Sorry for the off-topic, but what's all this talk about VSR not working in CF? Is it just with the 4K VSR mod or some specific cards? I played GTA V with CF at 3200x1800 just 30 minutes ago with very good scaling and pretty much never dropped below 60, nearly maxed settings.

    Can you use 4k though?

    In short:

    - 4K VSR only works FULLY on 285 single or crossfire, no need of modded drivers.

    - 4K VSR single GPU works also in 290(X)/2895X2 using modded drivers.

    - 3200x1800 is the "official" AMD limit in 290(X)/295X2 with single and crossfire setups.

No, since that isn't officially supported by AMD on 290X. So then, I take it CF only has issues with the mod/tweak that enables 4K.

When you use modded drivers it adds the 4K VSR in single GPU mode but it broke ANY VSR res in crossfire (even "official" ones...)

Yeah I see, thanks for the explanation. I actually wanted to try it out so I could downsample some older games from 4K, but if CF won't work even at 3200x1800 I won't do it. You saved me some time and some more AMD-induced headaches I'm sure. :)

On another note, GTA V is running much better with this driver for me than with 15.4, I used to get drops into the 40s in some areas even without VSR and now it barely dropped to 52 in the same area and weather conditions (at 3200x1800). The game can be a bit spastic so take it with a grain of salt, but it feels better to me and FPS on the counter is definitely higher.

This is highly vague testing. No clocks mentioned and we know that maxwell can clock much much higher than GCN, but the performance difference can lessen with higher resolution. Also maxwell is less suited than kepler to compare to GCN since it uses significantly less cores and thus easier to feed from a pure hardware point, though this shouldn't be such an advantage with DX12.

As i said before you CAN do VSR 3200x1800 with your 290 crossfire with official drivers.

The problem is 4K when you try to use crossfire with modded drivers, single is fine.

Yeah I got it. I'm using VSR with CF in a few games where in-game AA isn't great, like GTA V (2x MSAA has pretty much the same performance hit as playing at 3200x1800 and looks visibly worse).

    come release it already lol

game plays great @30fps for me but dips into the 25s if i could get constant 30fps at all times i would actually be happy.
as the game runs very fluid @30fps.....

also the game looks gorgeous :

everything maxed out @3440x1440 incl hairworks
i have it as i actually like the fur on the beasts and horse :D

I would certainly agree with you: Maxwel (but Kepler also) is easier to feed than GCN -> hence that famous overhead thread.
    But which GCN?

Because GCN 1.1 and even 1.0(!) is here to stay in R9 300.
And GCN 1.2 (Tonga) is considered modern by AMD standards.

    Anyway where's our driver?
I thought Shoddy twitted "this week". And that was... LAST WEEK?

The week isn't over yet, but let's be serious here. We all know that we're most likely not going to get anything at all.

Even if they do release a driver this week it doesn't mean it will have a crossfire profile for The Witcher 3...

AFR at 4k with everything max except no hairworks no AA is a nice 60fps at all times on the 295x2 but the whole screen flashes all the time. AA actually makes the game look worse but doesn't cost me any frames it just weirdly makes stuff jiggle all the time.

Yeah, performance is great with AFR, but the flickering makes it completely unplayable for me. There's just no way I can play with it as severe as it is in this game.
